I love siomai and I have long been curious of the xiao long bao. Xiao Long Bao are steamed dumplings with warm soup inside served in bamboo basket. Din Tai Fung is a popular Taiwanese restaurant that specializes on xiao long bao. They have branches here in Singapore, as well as in Malaysia, HongKong, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Australia and the United States.
My sister and I had dinner at one of the branches of Din Tai Fung in Marina Bay Sands Shoppes. The queue was really long. I guess you know that the place is good because people don’t mind queuing to get a table. While waiting, we were given a checklist of the menu with a number written by a pentel pen. Then we wait for our number to flash. To entertain ourselves we watched workers of Din Tai Fung make the xiao long bao through the glass.
After 20 minutes, we were seated.
We got:
PORK XIAO LONG BAO
It was a nice twist to the dumplings we love and know. These cute buns are filled with warm soup and bits of ground pork. So be careful when you handle your chopsticks or you will spill that soup. It was yummy and filling! I likey!
BRAISED BEEF NOODLE SOUP
It is mildly spicy and filled with lots of fattening beef cuts. You can tell from the swimming oil in the soup. It also has noodles in it. This bowl might look just enough for one person but believe me, me and my sister can’t even finish it. It was really heavy on the tummy.
SHRIMP FRIED RICE
A meal is not complete without a rice for us Filipinos. We got this shrimp fried rice which was just perfect. I love that they didn’t scrimp on the shrimps (hahaha! I love how that rhymes.) It was one of the recommended rice in Din Tai Fung.
I will definitely come back to try more xiao long bao and other varieties of it. Can’t wait to bring my hubby here….
