FURNITURE & HOME DECOR SHOPPING AT WIHARDJA

Wihardja

One of our family goals is to have a house of our own. My hubby and I dream to have our own place to decorate and make it our special homey haven. We are currently renting our a condo unit and sharing it with a couple of people. So we can’t really decorate it as much as we want to. But maybe someday, we can actually get to have our own home.

How timely that when hubby and I are having our late night talks about our own place someday, I received an invitation to join an intimate blogger session at WIHARDJA, an Indonesian furniture shop. And I can bring along my hubby. Yey!

Wihardja Furnishings, specialised in teakwood furniture, teakwood accessories, pottery wares and soft furnishings all made in Indonesia. It started in 1997 and currently has two showrooms in Singapore. They export to Canada, Spain, Costa Rica and Australia.

The blogger event was held in Wihardja Enterprise One Showroom at Kaki Bukit Road. It was nice to meet several familiar faces and their respective partners they brought along. We got to roam around the showroom and was impressed with everything inside especially the variety of displays and the different collections of wooden furnitures and suar wood tables.

I learned more about wooden furniture that night. Teakwood has natural oil content which makes it resistant to insect infestations and rotting even with extreme changing seasons. It is a very durable type of wood that has been used in ship-building,   bridge-building and furnitures. It varies in color from light to dark brown.  So let us address the question in your heads. Is Wihardja contributing to the haze that has plagued Singapore? The wood from Wihardja comes from the government-run plantation in Central Java, Indonesia and they don’t use the “slash & burn” technique in clearing lands. So no, they are not responsible for the haze.

Besides the wooden furnitures, there were also pottery wares, soft toys, small home decors and wall decors that can give your homes more character. I am already dreaming of how all of these would look in our future home. And did I mention that I checked out their prices? They quite affordable for a good quality furnishing.

I have been eyeing  several storage containers, a table decor, a plastic plant and a stuffed teddy bear that night. I needed a few decors for our room, some ontainers to keep our stuff and I wanted to get a stuffed toy for baby #2.

After excitedly roaming around the showroom, we all were gathered to enjoy an Indonesian buffet. The spread looks delicious. I am not very familiar with Indonesian cuisine and I am happy to try it that night.

My husband is a very picky eater and is often wary in trying new foods but he surprisingly enjoyed the buffet a lot. He even got a second helping of food because it was so yummy.  I was so full and satisfied that night. It was such a wonderful evening of furniture & home decor shopping, Indonesian buffet and dreaming of our future home. It is not too early to start buying stuff for our future home. My hubby and I are already selecting some furnitures and decors we want. Thank you Originally Us for inviting me and my husband to this fun & unique blogger session.

When I told my friends that I visited the Wihardja Showroom, I learned that they have heard  of Wihardja, bought some stuff there and are fans of Wihardja. I have a friend who got the convertible teakwood table/bench for their balcony. It looks great! I am seriously wanting to buy one.

THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

Things that inspired me this week

Things that inspired me this week

This week was filled with wonderful blessings and deep realisations. This week, I was invited to attended a fun blogger event at Wihardja Furniture Showroom. I was happy I was able to bring along my hubby. We enjoyed a sumptuous Indonesian buffet and we get to shop around the showroom. We went home with several stuff for our place.

This week, I also featured expat Elena, a beautiful photographer who founded Pixelena Studio in my blog for the Expat Diaries. Read her story here. Check out her dreamy and whimsical photos.

Also, this week, I had my monthly get-together with fellow Filipina doctors working in the same company as me but different branches. It is such a great comfort to have support systems and friends if you are living and working abroad. It makes you feel that you have people to run to when the going gets tough, people with open ears to hear you complain, people who offer you encouraging advices and people who help you improve. I have several support systems of “gangs” in Singapore that gave me so much joy and comfort. Though we don’t often see each other but we always keep in touch.

Today is my bestfriend’s birthday. We have been since Grade 1 . We have experienced life’s up and down from medical school struggles, triumphs, heartaches & now having a happy family life and we are still best of friends. We often try to keep contact even how busy we are. I don’t know how we managed to be friends until now but one thing I know is that when my kids grow up, I will teach them the importance of having friends, in keeping friends and choosing the right friends.

Also today is All Saints’ Day. Back in the Philippines, it is a public holiday. We celebrate it by going to the cemetery and pay respect to our departed loved-ones in the Philippines It is also a holy day of obligation. I went to mass today and I was inspired by the homily of the priest. He said, we need saints in the 21th century. A saint who watch movies. A saint who surf the internet. A saint who drinks coke and eat hotdog. A saint who drinks beer with friends. A person who can still praise God during the modern times and not doesn’t often our God. How great is this calling. We don’t need to be uncool, boring or detached to be saints. We can still please God doing ordinary things just like St. Josemaria Escriva is preaching.

Here are a round-up of links I found online that inspired me this week:

2015 will soon be over. I want to buy a 2016 planner!

Like what I said. We can be achieve sanctity in everyday.

Tips in how to love yourself.

Which color looks good on you?

I love Grace Kelly’s fashion!

Blessed All Saints/All Souls Day!
