BACK AGAIN AT SPICY THAI THAI

December 21, 2016 by Little Miss Honey 738 Comments

Spicy Thai Thai Cafe

I love coming back again and again at Spicy Thai Thai. I love their unique and delicious Thai dishes. I bought tapao (takeaways) there on Fynn’s 6months old celebration (yup, we celebrate his “birthday” monthly”, last Chinese New Year, and my blow-out birthday celebration for my kids’ nanny. I plan to dine there with family very soon again. Yes, that is how much I enjoy their dishes so much.

Since I will be taking my kids, I am glad to know there are non-spicy dishes for them in my menu. But of course, there are still new spicy dishes for those who prefer “hot & spicy” foods like my hubby. Spicy Thai-Thai included a fusion of Chinese & Thai for lovers of both cuisine.

Kaeng Som Cha Om 泰式野菜煎蛋辣汤 $18

Spicy Thai Thai

This is a rich soup with dill omelet soaked in it. It is very heavy on flavors. I have tried the dill omelet before but not in a soup. This is my first time trying out a soup like this.

Deep Fried Sea Bass with Thai Turmeric Sauce 泰式酥炸黄酱汁鲈鱼 $Seasonal Price

Spicy Thai Thai

We got a huge sea bass and I particularly liked it a lot. It was deep fried to crispy perfection but the inside wasn’t dry which I prefer. I love the crunch of the fish skin and the tenderness and flavour of the meat of the fish. The sauce made me like this dish because it was sweet and mildly sour. It wasn’t spicy for me. I couldn’t really taste any hint of turmeric but the reddish tint of the sauce may be from the turmeric.

Cold Tofu with Special Thai Seafood Sauce 泰式海鲜酱汁冷豆腐 $15

Spicy Thai Thai

This is one of example of the Chinese-Thai new dish. You get a big square of cold soft tofu with a yummy special Thai seafood sauce generously permeating the tofu on top.

Stir-Fry Broccoli with Scallops 干贝炒西兰花 $20

Spicy Thai Thai

Another Chinese-Thai dish is this one. Brocolli is one of my favorite vegetable. It is beautifully plated with scallops. The broccoli was stir-fry well to achieve a tender but not soggy texture. Honestly, I got more broccoli than the scallops.

Stir-Fry Cabbage with Thai Sweet Fish Sauce 泰式鱼卤炒包菜 $10

Spicy Thai Thai

Are you veggie-lover? Here is another dish for you. You will find the cabbage in Spicy Thai Thai is softer and juicy than the regular ones you buy in the local supermarket here.

Stir-Fry Sambal Baby Sweet Potato Leaves 小番薯叶炒蒜蓉 $10

Spicy Thai Thai

I guess, we are really giving in to our veggie cravings because we got another vegetable dish, stir-fry sambal baby sweet potato leaves. This time, this dish is on the spicy side but tolerable enough for me.

Ron Fried Noodles 泰式面 $6

Spicy Thai Thai Cafe

This is definitely my favorite among all the dishes. We got a 3 servings of this noodles. The noodles is named after the owner who made it serendipitously on one occasion. It is mildly spicy but I love the flavor of this dish as well as the texture of the noodles. I will be coming with my family for this one.

Stir-Fry Fish Maw with Crab Meat 蟹肉炒鱼鳔 $20

Spicy Thai Thai Cafe

Fish maw is often found in soup but interestingly in this dish, it is dry and added with crab meat. This is another winner in my book.

Sticky Glutinous Rice with Mango $8

Spicy Thai Thai Cafe

One of Thai’s popular dessert is the sticky glutinous rice with mango. The mango was sweet and I like how the glutinous rice was cooked. It was not too hard nor too mushy nor ‘bumble-gumy’. I like the milk was on the side so you can control how much to pour on the rice.

Lemongrass Jelly with Aloe Vera Cubes & Calamansi $3

Spicy Thai Thai Cafe

This is a very refreshing dessert with a nice zing and tang to it.

Spicy Thai Thai Cafe

I recommend Spicy Thai Thai for upcoming holidays because there are several occasions coming our way – Christmas, New Year and Chinese Year. There is always a dish for Thai and Chinese food fans as will as for those who love spicy food as well and for those who can’t tolerate one. I know I will visit them again soon within a few weeks. See you there!

CHA THAI: THE BEST OF FINE THAI FOOD

October 17, 2016 by Little Miss Honey 700 Comments

I love Thai food. I would never say “no” to Thai food. That is why I am always in a prowl for good Thai restaurants.

I was happy to discover a Thai restaurant in Telok Ayer Street, the Cha Thai that provides a finer taste of Thai food and debunks the myth that authentic Thai food means street food at a cheap price.

Cha Thai

Historically, authentic Thai food means cooking with palm or coconut sugar and coconut milk. Leah, the owner of Cha Time, realized the need for Thai cooking to evolve with the change of time, ‘to fine tune their cooking methods to suit the modern palate.’

Cha Thai

Leah is the perfect person to bring the East meets West approach to Thai food. She has been admitted to culinary schools in Thailand and France which gives her an edge on how to combine the West’s modernization and technology but still maintaining and fine tuning the East’s traditional taste.

I was excited for the Thai feast I have prepared my stomach for. The portions were big and great for sharing. I don’t think 1-2 persons can finish one dish. The prawns used were huge! They used tiger prawns in most dishes and I learned they sourced their seafood from their own kelongs to ensure freshness. They also cooked their meat in sous vide technique to achieve the right tenderness. All of the dips, sauces, milk teas and drinks are made from scratch. Leah said,  “I do not want Cha Thai customers to be compromised, I want them to enjoy high quality Thai food”. So I wasn’t surprised to see the prices are not similar to the street price like many because Cha Time uses premium quality ingredients with modern technology cooking without squirming on the portions of the dishes.

Cha Thai

Lemograss Prawn Salad ($28)

Cha Thai

This is one salad that salad-haters like my husband would love! The tiger prawns are fat and juicy. There are mixed with lemograss minced meat. This is a salad that some would just want some rice to eat with it.

Creamy Crab Roll ($15)

Cha Thai

I love food with dips and this one is no exception. This is a crispy deep-fried springroll skins that is dipped into the creamy crab sauce. It is one of those dishes that are great when you want some light snacks with drinks while chatting with friends.

Crispy Prawn Cake ($15)

Cha Thai

This is one of my favorites! It is thick and juicy and surprisingly not oily. It is generously made of tiger prawns and best dipped in the sweet chilli sauce.

Green Mango Salad ($16)

Cha Thai

One of my favorite fruit is green mangoes because I love sour fruits. I was surprised how spicy this dish is though. I had to drink lots of water because it was really spicy for me who has low tolerance to hot dishes. But I surprised myself that inspite of its spiciness, I can’t seem to stop getting several helpings of this dish. Yes, it is that good. There were some diced nuts mixed in the salad that gave it a sweet and sourish taste.

Saute Eggplant with Basil ($16)

Cha Thai

Eggplant happens to be in my top 3 fave vegetable to eat. I love to learn how to cook eggplant in differently. I love their take on cooking eggplants with basil. It is nicely paired with rice.

Signature Tiger Prawn Panang Curry ($28)

Cha Thai

This is creamy dish with enormous tiger prawns. It is lightly sweet and spicy with several lychee mixed in the dish to give it its sweetness.

Pad Thai ($22)

Cha Thai

Of course, there should always be Pad Thai. I like the texture of the noodles and I like that they didn’t mix the chilli, beansprouts and nuts, allowing those who order dish to add the ingredients they prefer.

Thai Curry Soft Shell Crab ($28)

Cha Thai

This is one of the recommended dishes to order because of its generous serving of soft shell crabs. I love the sauce of this dish. It has a proportioned amount of spiciness and sweetness that I like.

Tiger Prawn Claypot Glass Noodles ($55)

Cha Thai

If you are a big group dining out with a big appetite, go for this. I love the peppery taste and silky texture of the noodles.

Tom Yum Vegetarian Dumplings ($18)

Cha Thai

So our vegetarian friends won’t miss out, this is the dish for them. It is unlike the usual Tom Yum soup I ever tasted. It still have its distinct sourish taste but it’s spiciness level is off the roof. Also the vegetarian dumplings are yummy that our carnivorous friends might just give this a try.

Garlic Chicken with Bird’s Chilli ($18)

Cha Thai

If you want something besides seafood, you can have this diced stir-fried chicken breast with lot of garlic. But if you spoon in a bit of the bird’s chilli with your chicken into your mouth, I have to tell you that you would feel firecrackers inside your mouth. I know I did.

Charcoal Toast ($8)

Cha Thai

Cha Thai

I just fell in love with this dessert considering I am trying to go gluten-free as much possible. But for this, I wouldn’t mind going easy on my gluten-free diet. It looks very interesting. I would expect that it would taste charcoal-y or burnt but there was none of that. It has crisp outer layer and soft in the inside. There were two dips to choose from: milk tea and pandan. Both are yummy but I prefer to dip my toast in the milk tea sauce. I excited for my family & friends to try this.

Mountain Milo ($8)

Cha Thai

This is another interesting dessert that is good for sharing. You get to pour the creamy milk to into the mouth of shaved-ice volcano-shaped milo. It maybe  too sweet for most people but sweet-tooth that I am, I liked this. It is a good dessert for sharing for sweet-lovers like me.

There are several desserts to choose from also.

Emerald Jade Green Ruby and Red Ruby ($8)

Cha Thai

Sweet Potato ($8), Sweet Corn Herbal Jelly ($8), Melon Sago ($8), Tropical Paradise ($12)

Cha Thai

There are refreshing colorful drinks to choose from.

Cha Thai

Of course, there is always the Thai Milk Tea that is filling and yummy.

Cha Thai

Cha Thai is a good place to take your family and friends to enjoy  interesting and yummy Thai foods that does not compromised quality or taste. I can’t wait to bring my family and friends to Cha Thai.

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai

I love returning back to Spicy Thai Thai when I have massive cravings for authentic Thai dishes. I am not talking about the usual pad-thai and pineapple rice, my tastebuds are searching for that authentic spicy Northeastern Thai foods that excite my senses.

I was happy to be joined my spicy-food-loving husband and four other bloggers who enjoy good food and lots of conversation & laughter while eating, just like me.

We are all living in the East so Spicy Thai Thai is conveniently located in Aljunied. To find it, go down near Geylang polyclinic and just look for the wet market. It is just across the wet market of Aljunied.

Spicy Thai Thai

We sat on the table outside to enjoy the food alfresco. The owner of Spicy Thai Thai is a green thumb beside being a Thai food connoisseur so we can see the his garden set-up  outside which is such a refreshing sight.

Spicy Thai Thai
We had the Spicy Thai Thai regular bestselling dishes as well as their new dishes. We were so excited that night and it was perfect that we all worked up an appetite for dinner.

Hommok Thai Style Otak $18

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai

This is one of my favorite in Spicy Thai Thai. I love how lovely it is presented in a coconut shell. This is creamy and sweet with a bit of spice. This is the most creative way of eating otak. (Otak is grilled minced fish with spices). This is best eaten with rice. Drizzle the sauce of Hommok to your rice and it is absolute perfection.

Lala Bee Hoon $18

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai

Another bestselling dish of Spicy Thai Thai. I am all about eating clams right now because I am breastfeeding. Clams are known for increasing your breastmilk supply if you are lactating. And I was so happy when I went home, my milk supply increased 5x. I love this flavorful spicy bee hoon. The beehoon was cooked quite right and the clams were large & juicy.

Larb Moo Tok $12

Spicy Thai Thai

This one of the newer dishes in Spicy Thai Thai. These are spicy minced pork balls. These are for people who wants to challenge their tolerance to spiciness. These little ball will set your mouth in delightful fire. People who loves spicy food would definitely love this for sure. The nice owner of Spicy Thai Thai, Ron Poh, taught us the trick to eating this is by having it with the vegetables that comes with it. And Mr. Ron is so right! It is great with the raw vegetables that come with it.

BBQ Squid & Squid Roe (Seasonal Price)

Spicy Thai Thai

You have to know that this squid  is special than the other regular squids. The BBQ Squid in Spicy Thai Thai uses Japanese squid that are known to be more sweeter than other squids and they are truly sweeter. It is not dry or too thick. It comes with squid roe which I surprisingly like. It has this mild salty flavor that is great with squid.

THAI STYLE CURRY CRAB (Season Price)

Spicy Thai Thai

This is a little twist from the regular crabs you have tasted in Singapore. The crab is huge and meaty. I love the sweet & spicy creamy sauce. It is best shared with a group of people.

Deep Fried Kangkong with Special Thai Sauce $10

Spicy Thai Thai

Here is another of my favorite dish in Spicy Thai Thai. As you noticed, I do have a lot of favorite dishes in this Thai restaurant, hehe. I love how crispy they fried the vegetables and the secret is in the special sauce. I keep grabbing a handful of these and dipping them into the sauce.

Fish Maw Crabmeat Abalone Soup in Coconut $28

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai

It is served similar to the Hommok. I am not a soup person but I was surprised I really really like this soup. The soup has thick consistency and it is so flavorful with fish maw, crabmeat and abalone in the soup.  It was also so filling.

BBQ Pok Belly $18

Spicy Thai Thai

This one of the dish that was finished really fast in a matter of few minutes. We all love its sweet marinade and the pork was cooked perfectly in a texture that is not to  dry nor was it dripping with too much oil. It comes in a light soy sauce.

Deep Fried Sea Bass with Mango Salad $18

Spicy Thai Thai

This is a huge fish! If you prefer fried fish, this is the one for you. It is cooked well and not overdone. It has a light crunch on the outer layer and a yummy soft texture in the inner layer. You can dip it in any of your favorite sauce. You can have it with the  mango salad that comes with it.

Thai Walking Cat Fish with Spicy Lemon Soup $35

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai Cafe

Another super huge fish! It is so worth it to order this. It is served with hot coals beneath to keep it piping hot. So watch out and don’t get burnt by it. The lemon soup sips into this fish which gives out a spicy wonderful flavour. You have the spicy lemon soup on the side so you can drench your cat fish throughout the meal or you can pour it over your rice.

Ice Tea “O” $1.80

Spicy Thai Thai

We got the Iced Tea “O” (that means without milk) for our drinks. The tea leaves used in the Ice Tea was imported from Thailand to hold true to the authenticity of the taste.  I love the Ice Thai Tea “O” because it is sweet and extremely refreshing.

Spicy Thai Thai never fails to delight my gastronomic senses and satisfying my tummy. It was even more delighful to enjoy our abundant feast by sharing it with wonderful people who bursting with light and positive energy but has a serious love for good food. I will definitely go back to Spicy Thai Thai very soon…
