I believe date nights are important in marriages. Be it once a week or once a month, as long there are date nights. Though parent roles are added after having a baby, it is important to take some time to just a twosome, you & him before kids.  Friendship  and enjoying each other’s company is important in marriage because  there will come a  tim when kids would leave, you will only you & him and  if you don’t cultivate that sense of enjoying each other’s company & friendship, you find  yourself living alone with a stranger.

So we advocated on a monthly dates. For our  first monthly “serious” date, we    always wanted to try Marche’ Restaurant.  We headed to the Somerset branch.

Marche’ Restaurant is Swiss  restaurant  that offers  a wide variety of European cuisine.  We often passed by the restaurant  when  we go to 313 Somerset. I didn’t know the restaurant is actually below the signage  where they sell breads. Going down the restaurant, we felt we were transported to   festive Swiss Alpine  village.  For families who are bringing  a pram, don’t worry , they have a  glass elevator to use instead of the  stairs.

We were given us each a card by the staff that welcomed us in. We will use it to order.

It was indeed like being transported to the Swiss Alpine village. You get to go around and pick what you feel like eating. The place was huge and the wonderful colours of the food choices gave the light wood interiors a lot of playful hues. There were a lot of choices and we had a hard time choosing. We have to roam the whole place to settle in what we wanted to order.

After minutes of indecisiveness, we settled on the our orders. We give the staff the guest card and they will input our orders which we will be paying afterwards.

rosti in marche

Rosti with cream & sausage

Rosti is a typical Swiss dish made of potatoes. It looks like pancakes but it is more like a thin hash browns. It is fun to watch it cooked and flipped in front of you. The queue for the rosti then to be longer that most stalls. I ordered it with a sausage. The rosti is a bit too salty for me. But I was very filling and it is great to have a savoury sausage or bacon to go with it.

Pork chop

I forgot the name of this dish but I just call it pork chop. My carnivorous husband orders this one. It remind us of the pork liempo or lechon kawali in the Philippines. The skin was very crunchy good. It was delicious and a good serving size. We would be happy if it comes with the Mang Tomas gravy. The gravy that comes with it is okay but tasted a bit bland for me.

Marche Restaurant

Seafood Creamy Pasta

The seafoods were huge and fresh. And the pasta sauce was creamy and thick. Pasta was done in al-dente texture. Again, this dish is very very filling.

 Salad

I also got a small bowl of salad which I made for myself. There were a few salad dressings to choose from. I chose the strawberry dressing which is a bit tarty and not really sweet.

For desserts, there were a lot of choices and it was again very hard for us to choose since we love sweets a lot. We finally got three desserts which are all very good especially the cheesecake.

Marche was also awarded as the ‘Best of the Best Family-Friendly Restaurants in 2010′ by the Parents World magazine. There was a big playhouse for kids to enjoy. We can’t wait to bring Naj here also.
