MY 5 PREGNANT WOMEN PEGS

May 16, 2014 by Little Miss Honey 198 Comments

Pregnant Gwen Stefani Visits A Nail Salon

I know I have been gushing about the pregnancy glow during my second trimester, but all of that shining-shimmering-splendidness faded on my third trimester. Hahaha! My skin got dull and dry. I am swollen everywhere. I am having the attack of the reddish itchy bumps on my skin called pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP).  Then finally a few stretch marks made their appearance.

But there are those few who are just lucky to be gorgeous throughout their pregnancy.  Sigh!

Here are my 5 Favorite Pregnant Women Pegs who just happen to look great, if not even better when there are pregnant:

1. GWEN STEFANI

Pregnant Gwen Stefani Visits A Nail Salon

Nobody rocks pregnancy like Gwen Stefani. This cool chick just gave birth to baby number three last February 28. She is still very much the fashion icon that she is throughout her pregnancy. She accessorize herself with fedora hats, vests or jackets and a bold lips as she strut on with her baby bump. Gavin Rossdale is a lucky guy.

2. OLIVIA WILDE

This gorgeous gal just gave birth to a bouncing baby boy last April. She and her funny man fiancé, Jason Sudeikis are ecstatic with their new baby. Olivia manages to pull off this body-hugging green number at the Golden Globe Awards this January 2014 even with a baby bump.

3. KRISTIN CAVILLER

The resident bad girl of the reality TV “Laguna Beach” & ‘The Hills” is a mommy of two. She just gave birth to baby Jason Wyatt this May 7. If you need a guru for pregnancy fashion, I think Kristin Cavallari is your go-to gal. She is proud of her gravid belly and does not conceal it. She manages to look cute in all of the outfits she wears throughout her pregnancy. Something that Kim K should learn from. Hmmm…..

4. RICA PERALEJO-BONIFACIO

I have enjoyed following the journey of actress Rica Peralejo-Bonifacio to motherhood. I love her pregnancy updates in her instagram account and I am such an avid follower of her blog: http://www.ricaperalejo.ph. This is a woman who glows because motherhood becomes her. She glows too because Christ’s light shine through her as she helps spread God’s word with her pastor husband, Joe Bonifacio.

5. RISSA MANAQUILO-TRILLO

Rissa is every inch a model and oozing with elegant and grace. She still glows and projects a modelesque stature while other waddle like awkward ducks during their pregnancy. She just recently gave birth to baby # 2.

Kudos to you, gorgeous mommies! You are the lucky ones… Sigh! While we, the unlucky majority, will just sit here as we massage our swollen feet and wish that we can look just as stunning are you are during our pregnancy.

BOOKS FOR PREGNANT MOMS

May 14, 2014 by Little Miss Honey 5 Comments

For this Wednesday’s Little Miss Honey Book Club, I decided to feature books for pregnant moms like me. I didn’t buy a bunch of books because I don’t want to overwhelm myself. I know I have learned most of the informations about pregnancy in medical school but believe me, there are still so much to learn about motherhood  and pregnancy that  is  surprising  me and  continuing to surprise me.

I have two books that I use as my guide as I journey on to my pregnancy.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING

by HEIDI MURKOFF & SHARON MAZEL

This is a bible for pregnant women. Everything you want to know are all here. It is comprehensive  and so easy to read. It gives you specific details of what you will be expecting for that week of pregnancy: how your baby is forming, what are the changes in your body and common questions of pregnant moms are answered every chapter.  There are also chapters for   pregnancy lifestyle and diet, chapter for daddies, managing for complicated pregnancy and  what to do 6 weeks postpartum. I love this book and it is very helpful. There is even a movie made based on this book.

MOMMY IQ: A COMPLETE GUIDE TO PREGNANCY

by ROSIE POPE

Rosie Pope is the star of Bravo’s reality TV Pregnant in Heels and an owner of a fashion, Rosie Pope Maternity. She also is a founder of MomPrep, a teaching centre offering classes and workshop in prenatal, postpartum and parroting education. This book is more lightheartedly written and more of a mom to mom talk — fashionable mom to a newbie mom talk. Every chapter Pope aims to increase the pregnant mom’s mommy IQ a little higher. She also features inspiring quotes for moms. She asked the help of her own OB-GYNE doctor Dr Amos Grunebaum for complex and medically-related issues about pregnancy in a section in every chapter, Paging Dr. Grunebaum. She have a helpful list at the back of the book of what you may need in your hospital bag and what you may need for later after delivery in her Rosie’s No Frills Gear Guide. She also enlisted fitness guru, Andrea Orbeck to share tips on health exercise and diet for preggy moms. Rosie Pope was born and raised in London but snow residing in New York.

Of course, your diet during pregnancy needs to be in check with all the nausea and vomiting you will be suffering, to the nutrition your baby needs in utero,  to avoid complications like preeclampsia & gestational diabetes and unnecessary weight gain.

Here are two books you may need:

EAT RIGHT FOR YOUR BABY

by DR. Peter J D’Adamo

I have always been a fan of the Blood Type Diet because I know it works for me. I am happy to find a book for preggy moms if you want in corporate the Blood Type Diet.

WHAT TO EAT WHEN YOUR EXPECTING

by authors from WHAT TO EXPET WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING

This book was given to me by the thoughtful sister. The book is written very much like how the WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING is written, only its all about pregnancy diet. It  also has recipes at the back of the book which is very helpful.

20140514-234838.jpg

Though I may not be following all the tips and guides of these two books, I try my best to incorporate a healthier diet for my baby, of course with the occasional (?) giving in to my unhealthy cravings.

Also my sweet friend, Catherine got me this book, Brain Rules for Baby which I have yet to read. I can’t wait to read it already, hehe. Of course, all mom would want a happy and smart kid , right? Thank you so much Cath!

I am sure there are a lot of books out there for preggy moms but I am sticking to these for now. I also get some informations through my What To Expect newsletters and my I’m Expecting phone applications. I also tend to check out forums in babycenter.com. I usually just read the forum but never join.

Also if you are a vegetarian mom, the book Skinny Bitch Bun in the Oven is a good book for you.

If you have any books for pregnant moms to recommend to me, just leave a comment down below….

Happy Pregnancy, mommies!

5 WONDERFUL THINGS ABOUT 2ND TRIMESTER PREGNANCY

April 27, 2014 by Little Miss Honey 1,222 Comments

I know I am already in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy. It is another ballgame quite different from the 1st trimester and 2nd trimester. But I have to say 2nd trimester phase of pregnancy was amazing!!! I have to share it with my fellow preggy moms how wonderful it was and for those preggy moms in their 1st trimester, they have something to look forward to after the tough 1st trimester.

Here are 5 wonderful things to look forward to n 2nd trimester pregnancy:

1. MORE ENERGY

One thing I complained about my 1st trimester of pregnancy was my extreme tiredness and lethargy. I was so beat and lethargic. I wanted to just sleep and sleep for the three months. It was tough I guess in the first few months of pregnancy for body to be building the placneta which will be the source of nutrition, elimination, gas exchange and immunity for my growing baby. But on my 2nd trimester, all of that lethargy vanished. I think I was even more energetic than I was when I wasn’t pregnant. I was more productive on my 2nd trimester than when I am not pregnant. After a zombie-like phase in my 1st trimester, I guess during my 2nd trimester my mind was able to contemplate and revel at the thought that I have a growing miracle inside my belly. I feel more inspired every single day and my happiness level was just sky high. I was glowing in pregnancy high.

2. BABY FLUTTERS

During your 1st trimester, being pregnant seems like an abstraction. If you are like me who like evidences, concrete stuff and doesn’t like online shopping because I rather touch the merchandise before I buy them, it was tough during my 1st trimester when I want to make sure there is really a baby inside my uterus, hehe. That is why I am happy when I get to see my OB doctor who does ultrasound scan to make me see my little marshmallow inside my belly and also when I really get to hear his heartbeat. I do random fetal doppler checks in our clinic to check for my baby’s heartbeat. But during 2nd trimester, you get to feel some sort of action and movement inside your belly and it is awesome. It is called baby flutters. It feels like butterflies inside your tummy and like little fishes swimming gently. It feel very nice. It doesn’t feel like a real kick yet. So it doesn’t hurt yet haha…. I just felt like my baby is tickling me gently from the inside. I couldn’t help but smile when I feel it. It is me and my baby’s little secret. My sweet sister send this cute poetry to me in my Facebook timeline.

3. CUTE BABY BUMP

In your 1st trimester, it is either your tummy does have the evidence of being pregnant or it does, it is all gas and yes, constipation, hehe. You feel fat but you don’t really look convincing enough to be pregnant. So you will get a lot of “You are gaining weight” or “Have you been pigging out on those sinful cupcakes again?” accusations. But on your 2nd trimester, the troublesome constipation has not been visiting often and your belly now is showing signs of a cute belly bump. This maybe the best time to start doing the belly bump documentation because you are quite it is all baby now and not just bloating.

baby bump at 23 weeks

You can still wear your old slightly loose pre-pregnancy clothes at this point. You will can still look cute and pretty at this stage. Something I am not quite sure if you past the 6 to 7months mark of your pregnancy, I am sure if cute is this perfect adjective for you. People would probably use words to describe you with words that rhymes with an “ouse” like “house” or “bounce”.

But of course, some clothes will not be fitting perfectly now like your skinny jeans or your crop blouse. Your bra will feel a bit snug too! Yey for bigger boobs! I use these little helpers to accommodate my new “curvier” body. I use belly support, bra extenders, button extenders and I am so loving the Bella Band.

4. BABYMOON

Yes, this is also a perfect time for you have your ‘babymoon‘ . Babymoon according to Wikipedia refers to a vacation taken by a couple either soon before, or soon after, the birth of their baby, like the honeymoon which follows a wedding. 2nd trimester is the perfect time for  a baby moon because all that nausea & vomiting you have during your 1st trimester has gone away and that this stage of pregnancy, your OB doctor and airlines will allow you to travel. It is safe to travel during these times, as long as you don’t fall under high risk pregnancy, no previous history of miscarriages, etc. Also your travel itinerary  must be devoid of any strenuous activities like climbing a thousand plights of stairs, skydiving (haha) or anything that might potentially harm your little one.

On my 18th week of pregnancy, me and my hubby took advantage of the Chinese New Year long weekend holiday and headed to nearby Batam, Indonesia for a much needed vacay – our babymoon, hehe… Little one inside get to travel to Indonesia without a passport. He is my little illegal traveller, hehe…. We had a nice, relaxing weekend in Batam eating seafoods and getting massages.

Here is a video of our trip in Batam:

5. APPETITE BACK TO NORMAL

Okay, I am not sure if this is a good thing. But during my 1st trimester, even if I don’t have that nausea or vomiting symptoms, I was at war with food. Food for me just a piece of substance that I have to force in my mouth because I know my baby needs it. Eating seems to be a disgusting activity and  I can’t believe how much I enjoyed it so much before. Popeyes  chicken taste gross, pasta seems tasteless and JCo donuts just doesn’t appeal me. The only food that my tastebuds can accept are salty foods like a Fish Soup or  Potato chips. Even those doesn’t seem enjoyable as it was before. My hubby noticed that my appetite isn’t as it was before. Most eating partner would like someone to eat with who is just as enthusiastic as there to what there are eating. He also worries that I may not be getting enough nutrients for me and my baby with very picky appetite. I also know that that was not really my normal appetite.

But 2nd trimester makes up for all that. My appetite was back with vengeance.  I can enjoy food as it was before and also give the adequate nourishment for my baby.

I know that not all pregnancy is the same. You may or not be having the same enthusiasm of your 2nd trimester pregnancy as me. And for those in your 1st trimester, there might be a slightest chance that some of these things I have enjoyed may not happen to you. But hang in there. We all have this beautiful gift after this long 9 months. We all still blessed. And for those mommies who are happy with their 2nd trimester too, drop in  a line and tell me of your favourite 2nd trimester moments too.

Happy pregnancy, mommies!
