NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

January 5, 2015 by Little Miss Honey 4 Comments

Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet?

I made a hasty list of my 2015 New Year’s resolutions. I did proclaim that this will be a year of change. I even designated my very own colors for this year, its mint green and blush pink.

They say resolutions are best broadcasted or announced to several people so you have a conscious awareness to keep it. So here they are:

1. BETTER ME

Isn’t this a yearly New Year’s resolution for everyone? But rightfully so. We, all, will never be finish products until we die. There will always be something to improve with ourselves as we grow older. We should continue to be the best of who we are yesterday and last year. Better me means being a better daughter to God the Father, a better mother, a better wife, a better daughter to my parents, a better sister, a better aunt, better doctor/employee and a better citizen of the world. It also means allowing myself to reach my utmost potential and be the person I am destined to be.

2. MORE TRAVELLING

I declare to travel more this year. More places to explore this year. I hope to travel will my family to Kuala Lumpur and Korea and take a mini-side trip to Tagaytay when we will go home in the Philippines this year.

3. GIVE NAJ THE ‘BEST’ BAPTISM AND 1ST YEAR-OLD BIRTHDAY

Of course, “best”  is a relative term. It may not be the best for other people but it may be the best for us. Best also doesn’t mean expensive. I am excited that Naj will be part of the Catholic community and he will turn 1 this  year. Wow! How time flies. The baptism will be  simple ceremony and celebration in the Philippines with family and close friends while the Naj’s 1st year birthday might be celebrated while traveling abroad. We’ll see…

4. BLOG MAKEOVER

I love blogging. It keeps me happy chronicling my discoveries and inspirations online. This is my little online sanctuary and haven. So why not make my little online prettier, right? Yes, I am happy to announce that it will soon have a different lay-out and design. I am so excited! Plus I am gearing my blog towards more food & travel discoveries, more inspirational posts and movie & book reviews. I am hoping to make this blog as an information resource to fellow Expats. So, I will be featuring more expats in my blog. Watch out for that.

5. HEALTHY BODY & LIFESTYLE

I still have some lingering excess weight from my pregnancy. I decide to loss it once and for all. I am a petite lady and their few kilos can be  a lot in my frame. I also decided to return back to more of a pescaterian diet and add exercise in my lifestyle. After being sick these few days, I want to value my health and be more healthy.

I still have  a few resolutions which I rather keep to myself for now. Hope we all stick to our resolutions. Happy Monday everyone!

MY SUPER-LATE NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

February 7, 2014 by Little Miss Honey 340 Comments

Little Miss Honey

Wow, January has gone by so fast. New Year was a month ago and Chinese New Year just finished too. I was too busy being pregnant and with our recent trip back to the Philippines and endless dinner cooking (yes, I been such a whiz in the kitchen) that I have forgotten to blog. Sorry guys!

Though it is already February but since Chinese New Year was just a few days ago, I decided to post my New Year Resolutions as way to motivate myself this 2014.

1. STOP PROCRASTINATION

I guess I better start with this.  Not updating my blog, not studying, not doing my exercises, etc etc are signs of this horrible habit : Mañana Habit! So putting an end to this vicious cycle, I decided to start here and stop delaying & procrastinating. Time is valuable and we are wasting a lot of precious time by procrastinating.

2. BE THE BEST VERSION OF ME

2014 without a doubt would be  a year full of big changes. It is an exciting and scary thought that I will be responsible for another person’s life and well-being. Being a mommy is the toughest job most people would say. It take the best version of yourself to tackle this hug responsibility. I hope to raised a loved and happy child together with my awesome husband. The best way to do to do so is to be the best version of myself. We all got it in ourselves – the good and the bad side. So let us acknowledge and tame our dark energies and accentuate & develop our potentials & amazing-ness. For a child to feel loved, you must first know how to love yourself . And while my little bun is cozy inside my protruding belly, I get to channel all the loving and ‘try’ to be the best wife my husband dreamed of (hahaha! I hope I am doing a good job by feeding him my wonderful culinary creations drizzled with some hugs & kisses after). Not to mention being a good daughter to my parents, good sister to my siblings, good friend, a pleasant coworker and a kind inhibitor in this planet.

3. WISE-SPENDER & MEGA-SAVER

Time to get practical. Yes, my hubby and I are almost into our one year as a married couple and now soon with bouncy baby to complete a merry trio, its time to get serious— about saving. My mama taught me that, “Its not in the amount of money you earn but the amount of money you saved“. My mom is such a wise mama. She is right. So being the treasurer of this team of two ( soon to be three), I devised a budget plan with my hubby overseeing, that would allow us to pay off all our debts (almost there..  yes those pesky tempting plastics called credit cards!), save for our immediate needs & future goals and to have a bit of comfort & luxuries in between. It also means updating our SSS, Pag-ibig and Philhealth. Another avenue for saving is thinking of retirement fund. That is where Sunlife Financial comes in.

4. CONSISTENCY

I’ll let you in a little secret. I am quitter. I will quit at anything that is hard or unpleasant. I was just lucky that I am surrounded by supportive loved-ones who were able to push me to the finish line even if it means dragging me from my feet. My mother, my ultimate cheerleader, knows this little weakness of mine so she guided me, pushed me and helped me make my goals become a reality. My hubby is another dependable rock in my life. He always hold on with his feet cemented strongly to the ground to make our relationship work and a steady navigator to our goals & dreams.

5. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY

After more than 10 years of studying, I thought I will be done studying medical-related stuff but I was so wrong. Being a doctor is life-long dedication to studying and I have to accept that. My company had graciously enrolled me to  take a course for a  Graduate in Diploma in Family Medicine to enhance my medical knowledge and clinical competence. Its a privilege and  blessing to have this opportunity. So even with a thousand of little things to do for work and at home, must give some time to study, study, study….

6. FLEXY FLEXITARIAN

I know this is the worst time to diet. But renewing my promise to adhere to my flexitarian diet is more beneficial than harm. Wikipedia defined flexitarian diet is having diet that is mainly plant-based with occasional inclusion of meat  products. Our baby needs some meat for protein and iron but baby also needs a lot of greens. Sometimes my love for red meat makes me ignore the importance of my green friends.  So by concentrating on have a diet that is more plant-based with occasional drizzle of meat from time to time will allow my baby to have a  healthy balance of nutrition and make this little mama energetic & less prone to lethargy. I have learned long time that my body is more responsive and work better if my diet is mainly vegetarian but sometimes the carnivore in me is resisting.

7. BLOG IT

I know I have been neglecting my blog. But I shouldn’t deny the fact how my blog has enriched my life in a way I have never imagined and that it is an creative outlet for the little writer in me. But life has taken over and I forgotten to come to my sanctuary of my silly thoughts and literary babbles. I should renew my motivation for blogging. I don’t aim to be a bigwig blogger or a super social media superstar with thousands of ads on her page. I am happy that I get have this comfortable home in the blogosphere. Thank you for those who drop by to read my scribbles.

8. TREASURE MEMORIES & LOVE LIFE

I learned time is fleeting and every minute counts. I enjoy the Facebook Lookbook that allowed me to view my life in 5 years through Facebook and realise how important it is to created beautiful memories. Thank Mark Zuckerberg! You are amazing. Check my Facebook Lookbook! I love it! I also promised to start a scrapbook of our life herein Singapore and where it will take us someday. It is a great memorabilia for the kids. I also have another travel scrapbook for all the places we travel to.

5 WAYS TO APPROACH DREADFUL MONDAYS WITH A SMILE

July 26, 2013 by Little Miss Honey 704 Comments

I know, I know. People would say in relief today, “TGIF!”. Thank God, its Friday! Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t say the same because I still have to work half day during Saturday. TGIS after 1PM, then? So Saturday come so fast and Sunday becomes a blur, then its the most ‘hated‘ day of the week–MONDAYS *shudder.

I came up of 5 ways to approach Mondays with a smile.  I am thinking of making this my Friday habit in my blog by listing any “FIVE” things, ways, tips or favorites. Why ‘Five”? Well, I always have an affinity with the numbers “Three” and “Seven”, they are my favorite numbers. So in between these odd number is “Five” and decided to make use of the “Five” (My stupid logic, haha!). I will be giving you weekly Friday Fives. This week I will show you the 5 ways to look at Mondays  with positivity.

1.  START YOUR (EVERY) DAY WITH A  INSPIRING SONG

Everyday, I usually turn on India Arie’s Beautiful Day song while I put on my makeup. The song inspires me to have a positive outlook in life and have an amazing day. India Arie is like a self-help guru for me through her inspiring songs. When you are down or need encouragement, I think you will benefit from a bit of India Arie music.

2.  OFFER YOUR DAY TO GOD

I believe we are all helpless without our God. We can never do anything without His intercession and guidance. So I believe in offering all our intentions, our day, our victories, our sorrows (hopefully none) to the Almighty. This childlike dependence to our God allows fear to wash out from us because we know we can do anything because God is with us. We are more courageous in facing what Mondays can bring. We say, “Bring it on!”

3.  MAKE A LIST

Things are better executed if there is a plan. Lay out your goals and plans for the next week ahead. Best to do it on a Sunday. Set a 1-2 major goal and a few mini-goals that you will accomplish throughout the week. If you see in paper how neatly you segregated your to-do list for next week you wouldn’t feel so overwhelmed on a Monday with disorganized thoughts of the many things you need to accomplish on start of the week.  There are 7 days in a week. You can’t do it all on Monday so better scatter the things to do throughout the week.

4. WEAR BRIGHT COLORS

Choose your best clothes on a Monday. Don’t drag your feet on a Monday morning and be sloppy. Best to wear a bright “happy” color”. It will put you in a cheery mood and wearing clothes that would make you look great, will make you feel confident and better about yourself.

5. TAKE IN THAT ENERGY BOOST

We all have that “substance” we need to ingest to give us a bit of energy boost. For some it could be a hearty breakfast fit for a KIng, a Berocca vitamin drink, a power bar or a chocolate truffle. My drug of choice, like most of you, is coffee…

coffee with style

I have been trying to drink less coffee and shifting to green tea instead but when a situation calls for it, I drink my coffee. There is something about caffeine swimming inside my bloodstream that make me a smile like a silly idiot. If my Mondays need a bit of boost, I will have to take a sip of my coffee, just like Popeye needs his spinach.

So with this tips, I hope you smile on dreadful Mondays and make it delightful Mondays instead. Show your pearly whites. Smiling increases your endorphins or what we call your happy hormones. You will feel lighter and much relaxes if you smile. Smile even if you don’t feel like smiling. Because once you do, your body relaxes and giving your brain signal that you are looking forward to a happy day and hopefully a happy week.

A Happy Girl in a Tiara

Happy Friday everyone! Remember Monday is around the corner.. Hahahaha!
