THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

This week was a great week. Well, because it’s my birthday week! My birthday was last Friday. The start of the week may be quite hectic but also realize something that we often neglect to be grateful at the little unexpected wonderful things that come our way, like the cookies from HongKong my colleague offered to us to cheer us up for a toxic Monday, a free facial voucher another colleague, seeing an old neighbour I again I haven’t seen for  along time or a surprise early birthday gift from a group of wonderful women I have monthly get-together to discuss on faith, virtues and theology. There is really a lot if things to be grateful for if we just pay attention.

The day before my birthday, I was happy to received a postcard from a friend from Vienna, Austria. It is nice that even with distance,  I am still in contact with my friends even if we all scattered around the world. We still manage to keep in touch. Oh, I hope we can all gather and see each other soon.

I was lucky to be off during my birthday. By 1 AM, my sweet hubby woke me up with a cake and lighted candles to greet me on my birthday. I am a lucky gal for having a a great guy for a husband. He had the cake delivered at home without me knowing, hehe.

And he didn’t only surprised me with a cake. He also got a beautiful Fujifilm camera. I am in love! It is my dream camera and he made it come true. I love you, my dear hubby. I was playing around with my new toy and I am loving all the features. I am impressed with the camera. I am excited to bring it along my blogger events to try it out. I did a couple of product shots already with it and it turned out amazing.

Naj woke up too to give me a hug and  a kiss too. We stayed up a little bit to play with Naj. We just love our little guy’s cute antics and his sweet smile. Then we went back to sleep. I woke ups really early to go to Mass. I have to thank God for all the blessings he showered into my life. Right after mass, I went to Starbucks to met up with a friend and ex-colleague working now in a different clinic . She was running late so I got some chance to write on my notebooks on gratefulness list and new goals for me. When she arrived,  it was nice to have a chat over Toffee Nut coffee and chicken croissants.

In the evening, my family and I had a nice quiet buffet dinner at Holiday Inn Hotel. I was so full, haha… Naj also ate a lot. We arrived home with more wonderful news: my sister-in-law just gave birth to a healthy bouncy baby boy! We will be sharing a birthday, yey! I am so excited to hold him in my arms.

Thank you Lord for a wonderful week!

THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

5 months old celebration

This week, my little one turned 5! How time flies. He is growing taller and heavier everyday. He seem to learn more and more tricks. It is so exciting to watch. Naj now can roll over, stands & sits with support and can even do high-fives when prompted. He gets cheekier and cheekier everyday. He babbles a  lot, smiles to us when he sees us and squeals in delight. He is such a precious gift to us.

I realize here in Singapore, it’s not really a tradition to celebrate the ‘birthday’ of a baby monthly until age 1 unlike back home in the Philippines. But I guess it is also  a good excuse to eat some cake, hehe…

Naj’s cake, by the way, is Coffee Peanut flavor and its yum.

We are blessed to have housemates who get freebies from their workplace. And their freebies get to be passed on to us, hehe. Our housemate gave me a green nail polish. I am not really a nail-polish-kind-of girl but I love green! Now I am using it on my toenails.

Speaking of colors, besides green, I am also gravitating more into pink. I seem to be loving lots of girly colors and pink things now just like this Victoria’s Secret wallet.

HOW OLD ARE YOU?

Dove currently have this “How Old Are You” campaign to empower women who are ashamed of their age. Woman happily state their age when they were younger but as they grow older, they tend to conceal their age. Someone told me before that asking a woman’s age is a rude thing to do. Hmmmm…. Why?

Two days ago, I celebrated my birthday. I find myself nowadays shying away when someone ask my age. I would just give them a smile or say “Secret”. Bu at times when my patients would ask my age, I would happily say it and see the surprise look in their face. I am often mistaken to be younger than my real age because of my smallish size. But declaring my age to my patients has a reason. Being older as  physician is better than being mistaken to be younger. A young doctor would sometimes mean inexperience and still very green. But in other aspects and most often than not, I would often conceal my age to my younger colleagues, who might stop hanging out with me once they know I am not in their generation (Oh Grandma is coming) or my husband’s circle because I am older than him & that still makes me a tad bit conscious of that fact.

But I realized that my present “old” self is light-years way better than my past “young” self. My past self would be so proud of what I have become today. I have overcame many obstacles, reached goals I have set for myself and blossomed into a more confident & positive person. And these things didn’t come easily. Time was on my side as I grew slowly into the person I destined to be. That is why aging is beautiful, I realized. I learned as I aged through the experiences I have encountered. I realized that my younger self was very immature, fearful, negative and insecure. I wish to tell her that life is better lived if we explore more of God’s wonderful surprises with an open and positive heart. I am happy to tell her that the secret goals she listed on her notebook all was reached and even more. I guess youth is beautiful but aging too have its wonderful benefits. As we grow older, we become sweeter and more precious like a perfectly aged wine. I was glad I met my husband a bit later and got married and had a baby much later than most of my contemporaries. I get to appreciate it with a grateful heart more at this age. I learn now what to value more, when to say ‘No’ and how to be gentle with my expectation towards myself. Getting older also doesn’t mean that I turn to be a serious grouchy toad. For those who learned from their experiences and opens to what life’s obstacles may bring, your spirit may even get lighter and younger and carefree. Because you know that life is not an enemy as you thought it was in your twenties, you develop a childlike approach towards life and a reassuring knowledge that life will always turn out okay in the end. So aging is not that bad nor it is something to be ashamed about. Aging rocks! Right, mga lolos and lolas? I will now set new goals for my future self. I am excited what life may bring as I grow older. My future self might find me silly now because for thinking that I am so mature and accomplished when I have yet more life lessons  to learn along the way. By the way, I am thirty-five.
