SELAMAT HARI RAYA MY MUSLIM BROTHERS & SISTERS!
I have lived a couple of years in Saudi Arabia but it is in Singapore that I came to understand the Muslim culture even better. As of 2013, 16% of the Singapore population are Muslims.
Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar. This is a month of fasting for Muslims. Muslims will abstain from food, drinks, and sexual relations from dawn until sunset during this month. This is a time for increased spiritual reflection and devotion. They can have their evening meals after sunset which they call “iftars”. Hari Raya or Eid Al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan season. It is also known as the Festival of Breaking of the Fast. Our Muslim brother and sisters would wear their best garments, put on perfume, give alms to the poor, say their Eid prayers and celebrate in a special abundant feast. This is one of the highest and most important religious holiday for Muslims.
Selamat Hari Raya! Eid Mubarak!
