With Chinese New Year just around the corner, many retail establishments and homes are beginning to be extremely enthusiastic about setting up Chinese New Year Decorations.
We are glad to have a home décor specialist in Singapore share with us 5 ways on how we can spice up our homes this Chinese New Year!
1. Elegant and modern lanterns
Lanterns often have a misconception of looking cheap because most of them are made of paper or plastic. Most of these plastic and paper lanterns are also only available in very traditional and out of fashion designs, making them very unsuitable for most Singaporean homes. Singaporean homes, especially of the younger couples and families, tend to be more modern and westernised. These fabric lanterns above however, would definitely make the cut! Looking extremely premium because of its fabric texture and detailed design, these lanterns are available in a huge array of colours, fitting the design scheme of almost any home! Like them? 2. Introducing bean bags
Chinese New Year is a time where friends and relatives visit one another as a sign of respect or to give their well wishes for the upcoming Lunar New Year. A bean bag is known for being extremely comfortable. Recently, bean bags are also very commonly used as a home décor tool to spruce up the overall design of the home. Being able to be easily carried around the home to sit on makes a bean bag the perfect tool to accommodate to our guests as well. Furthermore, bean bags are easily available online and most of these merchants provide delivery too. With so many plus points, it seems like it is a must to get one for this CNY!
3. Decluttering mess with stackable boxes or shelves
Spring cleaning is often a tradition many Chinese families partake in prior to beginning the CNY celebrations. Decluttering mess is one issue, but how do we ensure that we do not have to keep getting rid of clutter? Investing in stackable boxes with drop front doors or new home furniture in the form of shelving would definitely go a long way. Eliminating clutter prior to CNY also means lesser housework throughout the year!
4. Wall decorations
Chinatown boasts a huge variety of cheap wall stickers for your home. These wall stickers come in the form of various shapes and sizes. They also have their own meanings of prosperity and luck. Having them on your walls, along with other CNY decorations would most certainly bring about the CNY mood far sooner than later! These stickers are available for as low as S$3.00 per piece, and can be as big as 30 x 30 cm. It is known that Chinatown becomes more crowded by the day leading up to the Lunar New Year, so make your trip down soon! Although these outlets do not perform delivery, we have the MRT to thank for amazing convenience.
5. CNY Titbits containers
Getting together as a family or as a group of friends to bake for CNY is a lovely activity. You get to show off your awesome baking skills and some of your family members or friends who taste them may even offer to place orders with you! The icing on the cake would be to showcase them in a presentable manner. Head down to your favourite local supermarket to get yourself some titbits containers! Do ensure that they are air tight though. You would not want your baking to go to waste!
