I haven’t read The Devil Wears Prada but I did enjoy the movie starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep immensely. So I was happy to get a copy of the book sequel to the cult-favorite book/movie.
Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns by Laura Weisberger was a much-awaited sequel of Andy Sach’s adventure to the elite society of fashion, print and high-class lifestyle. We all loved Emily from The Devil Wear Prada so you would love to hear that Emily is very much part of sequel. She and Andy, from being arch-nemesis in the first book became best friends here after finding themselves jobless and having a common interest which is “hating Miranda Priestly aka The Devil”. Both started a high-end bridal magazine called The Plunge. The magazine became a successful venture that lead a dark ghost from their past to hunt them in their present.
In Revenge Wears Prada, you would see a married and pregnant Andy Sachs handling the struggles of marital life and being a successful businesswoman. Unfortunately, this book disappointed me because the loveable and quirky Andy of the original novel came off as a sulky, tired and grudging woman. Though it was nice that I can identify with Andy who was pregnant is most parts of the novel and narrated so accurately the discomforts of pregnancy, I felt the spark of old Andy dimmed. She held her bitterness and grudge towards Miranda too vehemently. It was tempting to shake her and say, “let it go”.
I guess sadly this follow up to the #1 New York Bestselling Novel, The Devil Wears Prada was a disappointment to me. I find the novel to be a bit dragging so I am not surprised that they didn’t make a movie sequel. The only redeeming factor of the book was the ending. The ending was nice. It made me smile. In the end, the quirky Andy Sach came back….
If you have read this book, drop in a line and let me know what you this book sequel…
