We are all guilty of this. We allow our emotions like a spoiled two-year old child manipulating our poor weak self into submission with its attention-seeking tantrums. Feelings are fleeting and not always right. So we must have a steady and controlled hold on our emotions like a good mother to our two-year old self. So we shouldn’t allow it to dominant our lives and do the steering.
In this book, popular Christian author and speaker Joyce Meyer gives us points in how to temper emotions and not allow it to rule our life. If we allow simple emotions to dictate our decisions and how to live our life, we will sway like an unsteady boat on the sea. Imagine this. You know you have to exercise but you don’t “feel” up to it. Even though you conciously you know skipping your exercise regime would mean that you will be packing on the unwanted pounds and not allowing your body the cardiovascular activity it needs. And on top of it, you decided to eat at your favorite fastfood chain rather than cook a healthy meal because you “feel” like eating that greasy chemical-engineered food. Same is true with allowing our fear or anger to make permanent damages in our lives. Opportunities knock once on your door but you allow fear into your heart, so you back away and settled silently into your basement of fear. Or in intense anger, you allowed yourself to shout those nasty remarks towards your spouse when you know that those words would hurt her/him tremendously and setting a permeant stain in your relationship. Emotions may come and go but the actions you always be remembered.
Joyce Meyer advised that feelings is not our master rather we must have God to be the master in your life. If we allow God to direct us even if we begrudgingly do it, we know that it is for our own good. Father God wuld never wants anything harm for His children. So in undertaking any endeavors or deciding on our action, first ask what would God want us to do about it. Look deeply into ourselves and you will hear the voice of God. It requires constant deep conversations with God.
People are emotional beings but we are also created with a brain to fully analyse the best solution to any undertaking. Think before acting. We all must strive living beyond your feelings . We must know how to control our emotions so they won’t control you.
