Apprentice-Asia-2013-Winner-Jonathan-Yabut1

I heard a great news few days ago that the Filipino representative in Apprentice Asia 2013, a reality game show where a group of aspiring business-minded professionals from different parts of Asia compete to work with successful Malaysian entrepreneur and Air Asia’s CEO, Tony Fernandes who also serves as the host for the show . (In the original US show, the host and the person whom the winner will be working for is Donald Trump).

I am not able to see the show but I got to watch some interviews of the contenders and snippets of one episode. But it is such a great achievement for a senior product manager of GlaxoSmithKline Philippines and University of the Philippines graduate, Jonathan Yabut  to win the 1st Apprentice Asia, battling against fellow finalist and equally-tough Singaporean competitor, litigation lawyer, Andrea Loh.

I have seen a video where Jonathan Yabut was interviewed after winning the show. He is strong, eloquent, confident and very proud of the Philippines. He always wear his Philippine flag pin on his suit to be motivated to do well and win  the competition. He said that one of his edge among other contenders is a winning Filipino trait that has no English-word version, it is being “madiskarte“. He was right. There is no English-word version for that. Filipino has a creative way of getting solutions for certain situations. Having overcomed adversities and cristisms as a country, we come out unruffled, unperturbed and always with a winning smile. Filipino has a unique way of seeing things that may not be cookie-cutter but definitely refreshingly different.  We might come off like an underdog but we have an innate resiliency that has been tested time and time again.

Winning the 1st Apprentice Asia against other representatives of other countries proves that Filipinos have the aptitude, skills and leadership to make it to the competitive business world. We are proud of you, Jonathan Yabut! Thank you for raising the banner of the Philippines!  Mabuhay ka!
