5 POINTERS IN SHOPPING FOR JEANS

September 4, 2014 by Little Miss Honey 922 Comments

I have confessed before, shopping for clothes stresses me out. I prefer if family and friends would buy me clothes or give me their hand-me-downs. I have a male-mentality in shopping. Don’t get me wrong. I love fashion but I hate shopping. How Ironic is that? I hate hopping to one shop and another shop and another shop to find that perfect dress. But nothing is more stressful than shopping for jeans! Arggh! It is so hard to find a perfect pair.

But recently my husband (who is the better shopper than me) taught me some tricks in finding the perfect pair of jeans. Thank God, there are a lot of stylish jeans online perfect for my lazy legs who hates roaming around the mall.

1. KNOW YOUR SIZE

It is important to know your waist and hip size before buying. Let this be your guide in purchasing one. However, it is good to note that if you buy a perfectly fitted jeans, it will stretch one size up after a several wears.

2. KNOW THE JEANS THAT SUITS YOUR BODY TYPE

So after knowing your size, you should be aware of your body type. Boot-cut jeans, those with a semi-flare, flatters most body types but are perfect for those with large hips and big bottoms.  If you are lacking on  a bottylicious behind, opt for jeans with pockets to make it bulkier from behind. If you have that perfect hourglass figure, then you can never go wrong with a skinny jeans. Petite women would look great in a straight-leg jeans to give that illusion of length. If you are a tall woman with athletic built  wearing boyfriend jeans would be the one for you. Wide leg jeans are also flattering in tall and curvy women.

3. BUY DUPLICATES OF JEANS YOU ALREADY OWN

When in doubt, buy duplicates of jeans you already own. You can experiment by changing the color or with adding embellishments. This can ensure you that you bought the right pair.

4. TAKE NOTE OF THE RISE IN THE JEANS

Rise in the jeans is the length from the crotch to the waist band. There are 4 types of rise in jeans: high rise, regular rise, low rise and super low rise. A high rise elongates a tall woman while low rise can lengthen a short torso. Now, if you are sporting a postpartum tummy like me, low rise jeans will give me that unsightly ‘muffin-top’ so I better stick with the traditional rise.

5. CHECK FOR QUALITY

This doesn’t mean you have to be brand-conscious. But some poor-quality jeans can wear-out after two washes. Yes, two washes! It happened to me. Good quality jeans also has better and smooth seam work. Rough seam work can feel uncomfortable against the skin which makes you regret you bought it in the first place.

Once you purchased the jeans, remember to have it cut just above your ankle or if you are wearing heels, at the midline of your ankle.

Happy Jeans-shopping, guys!
