CHECKIN’ OUT THE NEW AND IMPROVED MONTANA BREW CAFE

January 11, 2017 by Little Miss Honey 49 Comments

Montana Brew Bar

One evening of 2016, four blogger friends came out for a food tasting at the new and improved Montana Brew Bar. Miss Chocoholic invited me, Sweet Memoirs and DessertingBeauty for this fun foodtasting evening. Montana Brew is not foreign from us. Miss Chocoholic, DessertingBeauty and I had visited the cafe before in one of our planned cafehopping session. We had their famous instagrammable red velvet waffles. Because I liked the place and I wanted to try their savoury menu, I took my husband there for one of our date nights.

I was surprised to find that Montana Brew  is located in two-storey (Level 1 & 2) with a bigger space to accommodate their growing customers instead on its previous space which was in Level 1 of PoMo.

The place has this modern industrial hip vibe with dim lights and abstract paintings on the wall. I particularly like their bar area in Level 1. There is bar counter with hanging light bulbs & plant holder and cushioned chairs with throw pillows.

Peking Duck Confit with Waffles

Montana Brew Bar

This chicken gives you a good variation of the Peking Duck. The herbs and spices marinating in the chicken was powerful and delicious. It comes with a delightful chilli sauce. It comes with two 1/4 soft waffles to balance the rich flavor of the chicken

Braised Beef Cheek with Carrot Kimchi

Montana Brew Bar

($20.80)

This is served with sweet potato and potato mash, egg and toast. The serving is good enough to be shared by two people. The beef was oh so tender. It has a heavy yummy sauce that ignite my tastebuds in delirium.

Crab Burger with Yuzu Coleslaw

Montana Brew Bar

($24.00)

I never liked the other carb burgers I have tasted before. But this one is an exemption. I like that it is in a crab & seafood patty and it doesn’t crumble off easily. I love the flavor and the yuzu coleslaw is great in it. I am happy it comes with fries because I believe burger and fries should always go together.

Spicy Chorizo Orechiette

Montana Brew Bar

($18.00)

I didn’t find this dish spicy at all. It is an interesting dish and I love the Spanish sausage which is star of the dish. It is drizzled by a generous amount of parmesan cheese and garlic breadcrumbs.

Matcha Black Sesame Freak Cakes

Montana Brew Bar

($14.80)

Montana Brew has a wonderful variety of hypnotic freak cakes. We got the Matcha Black Sesame with its beautiful green hue. There were matcha kitkats and pepero sticks strategically decorated in the delectable moist cake.

I urge everyone to come visit Montana Brew Bar. From their savoury to sweet dishes, they never disappoint.

FOOD TASTING: SPICY THAI THAI’S NEW AND BESTSELLING DISHES

May 27, 2016 by Little Miss Honey 76 Comments

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai

I love returning back to Spicy Thai Thai when I have massive cravings for authentic Thai dishes. I am not talking about the usual pad-thai and pineapple rice, my tastebuds are searching for that authentic spicy Northeastern Thai foods that excite my senses.

I was happy to be joined my spicy-food-loving husband and four other bloggers who enjoy good food and lots of conversation & laughter while eating, just like me.

We are all living in the East so Spicy Thai Thai is conveniently located in Aljunied. To find it, go down near Geylang polyclinic and just look for the wet market. It is just across the wet market of Aljunied.

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai

We sat on the table outside to enjoy the food alfresco. The owner of Spicy Thai Thai is a green thumb beside being a Thai food connoisseur so we can see the his garden set-up  outside which is such a refreshing sight.

Spicy Thai Thai
We had the Spicy Thai Thai regular bestselling dishes as well as their new dishes. We were so excited that night and it was perfect that we all worked up an appetite for dinner.

Hommok Thai Style Otak $18

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai

This is one of my favorite in Spicy Thai Thai. I love how lovely it is presented in a coconut shell. This is creamy and sweet with a bit of spice. This is the most creative way of eating otak. (Otak is grilled minced fish with spices). This is best eaten with rice. Drizzle the sauce of Hommok to your rice and it is absolute perfection.

Lala Bee Hoon $18

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai

Another bestselling dish of Spicy Thai Thai. I am all about eating clams right now because I am breastfeeding. Clams are known for increasing your breastmilk supply if you are lactating. And I was so happy when I went home, my milk supply increased 5x. I love this flavorful spicy bee hoon. The beehoon was cooked quite right and the clams were large & juicy.

Larb Moo Tok $12

Spicy Thai Thai

This one of the newer dishes in Spicy Thai Thai. These are spicy minced pork balls. These are for people who wants to challenge their tolerance to spiciness. These little ball will set your mouth in delightful fire. People who loves spicy food would definitely love this for sure. The nice owner of Spicy Thai Thai, Ron Poh, taught us the trick to eating this is by having it with the vegetables that comes with it. And Mr. Ron is so right! It is great with the raw vegetables that come with it.

BBQ Squid & Squid Roe (Seasonal Price)

Spicy Thai Thai

You have to know that this squid  is special than the other regular squids. The BBQ Squid in Spicy Thai Thai uses Japanese squid that are known to be more sweeter than other squids and they are truly sweeter. It is not dry or too thick. It comes with squid roe which I surprisingly like. It has this mild salty flavor that is great with squid.

THAI STYLE CURRY CRAB (Season Price)

Spicy Thai Thai

This is a little twist from the regular crabs you have tasted in Singapore. The crab is huge and meaty. I love the sweet & spicy creamy sauce. It is best shared with a group of people.

Deep Fried Kangkong with Special Thai Sauce $10

Spicy Thai Thai

Here is another of my favorite dish in Spicy Thai Thai. As you noticed, I do have a lot of favorite dishes in this Thai restaurant, hehe. I love how crispy they fried the vegetables and the secret is in the special sauce. I keep grabbing a handful of these and dipping them into the sauce.

Fish Maw Crabmeat Abalone Soup in Coconut $28

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai

It is served similar to the Hommok. I am not a soup person but I was surprised I really really like this soup. The soup has thick consistency and it is so flavorful with fish maw, crabmeat and abalone in the soup.  It was also so filling.

BBQ Pok Belly $18

Spicy Thai Thai

This one of the dish that was finished really fast in a matter of few minutes. We all love its sweet marinade and the pork was cooked perfectly in a texture that is not to  dry nor was it dripping with too much oil. It comes in a light soy sauce.

Deep Fried Sea Bass with Mango Salad $18

Spicy Thai Thai

This is a huge fish! If you prefer fried fish, this is the one for you. It is cooked well and not overdone. It has a light crunch on the outer layer and a yummy soft texture in the inner layer. You can dip it in any of your favorite sauce. You can have it with the  mango salad that comes with it.

Thai Walking Cat Fish with Spicy Lemon Soup $35

Spicy Thai Thai

Spicy Thai Thai Cafe

Another super huge fish! It is so worth it to order this. It is served with hot coals beneath to keep it piping hot. So watch out and don’t get burnt by it. The lemon soup sips into this fish which gives out a spicy wonderful flavour. You have the spicy lemon soup on the side so you can drench your cat fish throughout the meal or you can pour it over your rice.

Ice Tea “O” $1.80

Spicy Thai Thai

We got the Iced Tea “O” (that means without milk) for our drinks. The tea leaves used in the Ice Tea was imported from Thailand to hold true to the authenticity of the taste.  I love the Ice Thai Tea “O” because it is sweet and extremely refreshing.

Spicy Thai Thai never fails to delight my gastronomic senses and satisfying my tummy. It was even more delighful to enjoy our abundant feast by sharing it with wonderful people who bursting with light and positive energy but has a serious love for good food. I will definitely go back to Spicy Thai Thai very soon…

GARDEN PICKS FOR HEALTHY LIVING & BREASTMILK-BOOSTING POWERS

May 11, 2016 by Little Miss Honey 297 Comments

Garden Picks

I’ve given birth to a healthy 3 kg baby boy via repeat caesarean section 2 months ago. After giving birth, I have three goals:

1. Lose weight and reach my target weight of 45kg. (You have to know, I am barely 5 feet so a few kilos gained can make a lot of obvious difference.)

2. Improve my family’s dietary habits by introducing organic and healthier foods in our meals (which eventually may result to my goal #1)

3.) Breastfeed my newborn until 1-year-old (so I hope I could produce more breastmilk this time with baby #2 compared to my firstborn where I only breastfeed him until 7 months old because I wasn’t producing much milk.)

I was happy to discover Garden Picks, an online company that delivers healthy grains and snacks. They offer a wide variety of nuts, seeds, dried fruits, oats, and granola. Their clientele includes renowed restaurants and hotels all across Singapore. They are proud of the high quality of their products with guranteed ‘factory-freshness’ delivered at your doorstep. It looks like that Garden Picks products would help me achieve the goals I set for myself. I got to try five of their products: Toasted Oats, Black Forest Granola, Organic Tri-Colour Quinoa, SuperFood Granola and Black Chia Seeds.

Garden Picks

Toasted Oats

Garden Picks

Garden Picks

Oats have been one of the best go-to breakfast choices. It is a quick breakfast to make. It is healthy & packed with energy. It has also been most recommended galactagogue or milk-boosting food for breastfeeding moms. Most breastfeeding advocates swears by this. The toasted oats is one of the newer products of Garden Picks. It is an Australian rolled oats toasted with orange-pressed olive oil and honey. I made overnight oats with this one. I make it at night, put in the refrigerator and eat it in the morning. It saves me time in the morning because I have to rush to work. I get equal portions of oats, fresh milk & yogurt and I top it with either blueberries, strawberries or banana slices. It is a delicious breakfast and I love that it is different from the regular oats out there. I feel energized at work and it allows me to feel satiated until my lunch time.

SuperFood Granola

Garden Picks

Garden Picks

My toddler is a very picky eater. I have to force him and try many tricks just for him to eat. Garden Picks solved my problem with one of their product, SuperFood Granola. The SuperFood Granola contained chia seeds that provides you with fiber, protein and omega-3 fatty acids to power up the immune system. Now my son enjoys eating a healthy meal.  I put it in his rice porridge to add texture and fun into his food. I would also sprinkle this in chilled fruit yogurt. He love it so much! He would swallow so fast, smile and shout “Am, Am!” which means more please. I also pack this in a small ziplock bag for a ready snacks when I am hungry at work or when we go out to the park.

Tri-Colour Quinoa

Garden Picks

Garden Picks

This pretty mix of three color quinoa: black, white and red. I have always been a fan of quinoa since I used to substitute my white rice with this when I was trying to lose weight for my wedding 3 years ago. And it works! It kept my tummy flat unlike when I eat white rice which makes my tummy bloat so bad. Quinoa is a great source of fiber, protein and essential amino acids. I enjoy Garden Picks Tri-Colour Quinoa apart from its attractive color scheme is its texture of soft with a bit of crunch. I don’t seem to miss rice when I have this. I bring it at work for my lunch and pair it with salmon or eggplant omelette. (FYI: Salmon also is a great milk-boosting food.)

Black Forest Granola

Garden Picks

Garden Picks

If I want an alternative for my oatmeal breakfast which is equally healthy, energy-giving and has milk-boosting power, I can go for granola. I am loving one of the newest products of Garden Picks, the Black Forest Granola.  It contain chocolate buttons, coconut chips, tangy cranberries, honey and vanilla essence. Healthy indulgence! I would pair this with my favorite yogurt and the fruit for the day. Look at my beautiful breakfast granola above. I also tried making a granola bar by mixing it with melted Muscovado sugar for easy grab-to-go snacks. I asked my colleagues to try it and they liked it a lot.

Black Chia Seeds

Garden Picks

Garden Picks

I am aware of the wonderful power of chia seeds. This is another one of my usual pantry staple when I was trying to lose weight for my wedding. I would sprinkle this on my rice or put in my water. Or I make chia pudding but putting a small portion of water into a container of chia seeds with bit of honey. I would put it in the refrigerator overnight, the seeds will expand into a little jelly pearls. You can add coconut flakes on top and viola, a perfect meal replacement. I enjoy Garden Picks Black Chia Seeds and put it in almost every food I eat. I add it with my salad too.

I am so glad that with these 5 packs of healthy foods I got my breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. I am well on my way to losing my excess weight, improving my family’s dietary habits as well as my own and my breastmilk supply increases tremendously.

I am happy that I know now where to get my regular supply of quinoa and chia seeds without venturing out to various health stores looking for it. I also want to try their cashew nut butter and honey almond (another galactagogue). I am ecstatic that I am right on track on my post-pregnancy goals with Garden Picks.

For those who are shifting to a healthier dietary choices, those who are trying to lose weight, those who loves nuts & dried fruits and a breastfeeding momma trying to increase her milk supply, head over to Garden Picks Website to order their products.
