Last week, I was invited by Alvinology for a Foodie Mig Up with fellow bloggers at this revamped modern Asian restaurant with European twist, Restaurant Sela.
Let me tell you more about MigMe first. Migme is a social entertainment platform where you can microblog and chat with other cool people. It is a great online platform. You can play games and play music. You can get the latest scoops from the migme-phere. Make your own account today. Follow me at migme/littlemisshoney. Let’s get in touch at migme.
Restaurant Sela is located at the heart of Seah Street. You can come from City Hall MRT or Bugis MRT. It is just a few steps away from The Mint Toy Museum.
The place looks very posh and classy. It is very modern with lots of grey and white textures. The lighting of the restaurant is perfect for date nights and deep lengthy conversations with friends.
We were greeted by Alvin and Celebrity Chef Benson Tong along with several bloggers I have met in other blogger events. Chef Benson upgraded the menu for Restaurant Sela and we were all excited to try the dishes he prepared for us. (By the way, Chef Benson is also in migme. Add him under migme/dragonndog.)
The next thing that greeted us was this bottle on the table with my name on it : Honey. Restaurant Sela got an alcoholic drink called Mernaya Bitters imported from Ukraine that contains Honey & Pepper. Sweet & Spicy. Oh, I wish I could have a sip but I am avoiding alcohol for now.
First up was the Procuitto Ham & Melon ($16). I love the plating and how particular Chef Benson is with his food presentation.
This has wild rocket, compressed rock melon, ham, pickled beetroot and balsamic gel. Chef Benson explained to us that the melon was compressed via a vacuüm to enhanced the flavour, color and softness of the fruit. I learned something that night that if we want to make the fruits we bought to taste even better, compression is the way to go. The saltiness of the beetroot and the tender ham are paired well with the sweet soft melon.
We got to try another starter, Pan Seared US Scallops ($16).
Underneath hides the purple soft rice and on top is the three juicy scallops and red radishes glazed with salted-egg cream. I like anything with salted egg so I was really enjoying this dish. I would have wanted a bit more of the rice to counteract with the salted egg cream.
We proceeded with the Main Course. We had the Kakuni Pork Cheek ($20).
Together with the deeply marinated pork cheek, it contains arugula, charred corn kernel, braised leek, roasted parsnip and Granny Smith sauce. When we sliced into the pork cheek, we thought we need a bit of strength to sliced it with a knife. We were surprised that the meat was very tender. It was very succulent and pairs well with the corn kernel and parsnip. It was a bit too salty for my taste though.
Another Main Course dish is the Miso Chilean Seabass ($32).
I am currently loving fish dishes and this seabass did not disappoint. It comes swimming in lemon broth with mushrooms, crispy leek and arugula. It was tender like most of the dishes that was served. I love dipping the fish into the sauce.
Then comes the favourite of everyone. Dessert!!! We had Semolina Cake ($12).
This is a starchy grainy cake with lots of texture topped with a sweet torched cream. I like the texture of the cake and works well with the creamy frosting. It comes with the tarty fruits on the side.
Chef Benson saved the best for last. We had the Dehydrated Pineapple Pavlova ($10).
A bowl-like shaped Pavlova contained the vanilla ice cream with the dehydrated pineapple, caramel and paprika. Yes, parika! The paprika added a bit of kick to the ice cream and pavlova. We enjoyed this immensely.
I am happy to announce that Restaurant Sela serves 3 course Executive Lunch set at $15.90 from 11:30 AM to 2: 30PM. They also serve Singapore Style Brunch Menu on Saturdays from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
Here is some exciting news!
