Food Mig Up at Restaurant Sela

Food Mig Up at Restaurant Sela

Last week, I was invited by Alvinology for a Foodie Mig Up with fellow bloggers at this revamped modern Asian restaurant with European twist, Restaurant Sela.

Let me tell you more about MigMe first. Migme is a social entertainment platform where you can microblog and chat with other cool people. It is a great online platform. You can play games and play music. You can get the latest scoops from the migme-phere. Make your own account today. Follow me at migme/littlemisshoney. Let’s get in touch at migme.

Restaurant Sela is located at the heart of Seah Street. You can come from City Hall MRT or Bugis MRT. It is just a few steps away from The Mint Toy Museum.

Restaurant Sela

Restaurant Sela

The place looks very posh and classy. It is very modern with lots of grey and white textures. The lighting of the restaurant is perfect for date nights and deep lengthy conversations with friends.

We were greeted by Alvin and Celebrity Chef Benson Tong along with several bloggers I have met in other blogger events. Chef Benson upgraded the menu for Restaurant Sela and we were all excited to try the dishes he prepared for us. (By the way, Chef Benson is also in migme. Add him under migme/dragonndog.)

Restaurant Sela

The next thing that greeted us was this bottle on the table with my name on it : Honey. Restaurant Sela got an alcoholic drink called Mernaya Bitters imported from Ukraine that contains Honey & Pepper. Sweet & Spicy. Oh, I wish I could have a sip but I am avoiding alcohol for now.

Mernaya

First up was the Procuitto Ham & Melon ($16). I love the plating and how particular Chef Benson is with his food presentation.

procuitto ham & melon

This has wild rocket, compressed rock melon, ham, pickled beetroot and balsamic gel. Chef Benson explained to us that the melon was compressed via a vacuüm to enhanced the flavour, color and softness of the fruit. I learned something that night that if we want to make the fruits we bought to taste even better, compression is the way to go. The saltiness of the beetroot and the tender ham are paired well with the sweet soft melon.

We got to try another starter, Pan Seared US Scallops ($16).

Pan Seared US Scallops

Underneath hides the purple soft rice and on top is the three juicy scallops and red radishes glazed with salted-egg cream. I like anything with salted egg so I was really enjoying this dish. I would have wanted a bit more of the rice to counteract with the salted egg cream.

We proceeded with the Main Course. We had the Kakuni Pork Cheek ($20).

Pork Cheek

Together with the deeply marinated pork cheek, it contains arugula, charred corn kernel, braised leek, roasted parsnip and Granny Smith sauce. When we sliced into the pork cheek, we thought we need a bit of strength to sliced it with a knife. We were surprised that the meat was very tender. It was very succulent and pairs well with the corn kernel and parsnip. It was a bit too salty for my taste though.

Another Main Course dish is the Miso Chilean Seabass ($32).

Miso Seabass

I am currently loving fish dishes and this seabass did not disappoint. It comes swimming in lemon broth with mushrooms, crispy leek and arugula. It was tender like most of the dishes that was served. I love dipping the fish into the sauce.

Then comes the favourite of everyone. Dessert!!! We had Semolina Cake ($12).

Semolina Cake

This is a starchy grainy cake with lots of texture topped with a sweet torched cream. I like the texture of the cake and works well with the creamy frosting. It comes with the tarty fruits on the side.

Chef Benson saved the best for last. We had the Dehydrated Pineapple Pavlova ($10).

Pavlova

A bowl-like shaped Pavlova contained the vanilla ice cream with the dehydrated pineapple, caramel and paprika. Yes, parika! The paprika added a bit of kick to the ice cream and pavlova. We enjoyed this immensely.

I am happy to announce that Restaurant Sela serves 3 course Executive  Lunch set at $15.90 from 11:30 AM to 2: 30PM. They also serve Singapore Style Brunch Menu on Saturdays from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

Here is some exciting news! If you dine at Restaurant Sela, you get a chance to win a private chef experience by Chef Benson Tong at the comforts of your own home by taking a picture of your dish and post in your instagram account, hashtag #RestaurantSela and don’t forget to tag me too #littlemisshoney. The one with the most likes, the better. Goodluck!

FOOD DISCOVERIES: DAY & NIGHT

Food Discoveries: Day & Night

Food Discoveries: Day & Night

I met up with two Filipina doctors who are just join the other branches of the clinic I am working at for dinner. We headed to the charming neighborhood of Tiong Bahru and when we saw the first restaurant we find, we all decided to have dinner.

Day & Night used to be called Two-Faced Pizzeria. In the morning, it is the classic kopitiam and in the evening, it transforms into a pasta  & pizza place with beers.

The place looks casual and cool. It is an open-air food place which would allow you to people-watch the interesting passersby of Tiong Bahru. I love the touch of the big chalkboard and the plaid table cloths.

K chose a tomato-based pasta for us. I am more into the cream-based pasta but this pasta took me by surprised. We keep raving about it!

Day & Night PastaMushroon Aglio Olio

I love this pasta! The flavor was so rich like there is a kick to it. It was slightly spicy for me but it added to the yumminess of the pasta. I can’t to bring my pasta-lover husband here.

Day & Night Burger Day & Night Burger

This was another hit for us. The patty was huge! Its is a grilled rib-eye beef with caramelized onion and truffle mayo. I now prefer wedge fries than regular fries. I am glad this burger comes with wedge fries.

Pizza can be ordered with half-half flavor. We went for Seafood Pizza and Hawaiian Pizza.

Day & Night PizzaSeafood Pizza & Hawaiian Pizza

I love both the flavors! But for pizza, I always have been partial to Hawaiian Pizza ever since I was young. I like the crust of their pizza. It felt it was brick-oven baked but I am not very sure. It was crisp and yummy.

Drinks

For drinks, we went with Coke and Iced Tea. It would have been a great place to drink beers but unfortunately, we are not beer drinkers.

Day & Night is a good place to hang out with friends for a good old burger, pasta and pizza and drink beer while people-watching.

THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

Foot Soak Flare Wellness

This week was a very productive week for me. On Tuesday, I headed to Bugis Cube for the first of three facial sessions with Flare Wellness for our collaboration for Project Transformation. Watch out for that on my blog. It was such a wonderful experience. I felt so relaxed and I even dozed off. It started off with a relaxing foot soak. I will tell you more about it soon.

Foot Soak Flare Wellness

Though unfortunately after the session, I got stranded in Bugis because MRT broke down and I have to catch a bus along with a lot of people, tired and anxious to get home too. But after two hours of two bus rides, I was finally home. It’s all well that ends well. Read this beautiful article about the train breakdown last Tuesday.

The very next day, it was nice to unwind with a work colleague and headed to Changi Village for dinner, chats about life & plans and this cute 3D Art Iced Latte at Chock Full of  Beans.

Chock Full of Beans

This week also I am privileged to meet two of the most popular & distinguished food bloggers here in Singapore: Dr. Leslie Tay, family physician & author of www.ieatishootipost.sg and Daniel Ang, fitness instructor, lecturer & author of www.danielfooddiary.com.

Dr. Leslie Tay & Daniel Ang Dr. Leslie Tay (right) & Daniel Ang (left)

I met them both on two separate occasions and both gave out tips on blogging. I am a fan of their food blogs and after meeting them, I  developed an even deeper admiration & respect for the two gentlemen. I learned  a lot from both of them. I just met Daniel yesterday. Tampines 1 Mall organised 20 lucky persons to be part of the Art of Food Blogging workshop with Daniel Food Diary.

It was a fun afternoon of learning, eating and meeting new people. The foods were amazing! Take a look!

And the best part of my week? It is always will be my baby boy. I am growing more and more in love with this little man. He is so funny and very determined (hahaha, where did he inherited that?). He managed to take 3 steps on his own yesterday. Oh, I am such a proud momma. I wish my hubby saw it too.
