My husband is the ultimate carnivore. He loves a great steak. So I was thrilled to be invited to a food tasting to try the best dry-aged meat in Singapore and I was asked to bring along a guest. I was happy to take my husband along with me.
District 10 Bar & Restaurant is a newly-opened classy restobar, an extension from the award-winning and prestigious brand, BONTA Italian Fine Dining. Their speciality is their dry-aged meat charcoal-grilled to perfection.
What exactly is Dry-Aged Meat? Dry-aging or also called hanging of cuts came from a popular age-old practice in colder countries. Because of its colder, drier and freezing climate, this type of preservation method lessens the meat to be spoilt. Butchers and cooks noticed that the dry-aged meat creates wonderful natural flavours due the enzymes breaking down the tissues in the muscles which softens and tenderise the meat.
Chef Luca Pezzera, co-owner and executive chef of Bonta Group, has perfected this type of preparation of premium meats together with the art of charcoal-grilling. This process has created flavourful meats for people to enjoy with a bottle of red wine.
District 10 Bar & Restaurant at Suntec City was designed as a classic European charcoal grill restaurant with a transparent chiller to showcase the premium meats, a butcher’s block and a show kitchen for customers to view how their meats are being grilled to perfection.
Restaurant-goers have the option to have their meal in the cozy dining space indoors or have it al-fresco.
I met two other bloggers and their guests. It was nice night to enjoy a great steak. It was a pleasant intimate gathering of people who loves food.
While waiting for the appetizers, we were offered their homemade bread basket that comes with a dipping olive oil sauce. It was crunchy but not dry. We enjoy having several cuts of the bread and dipping it in the sauce.
The Appetizers:
Vitello Tonnato ($24.00)
These are thinly sliced roasted veal loin with light tuna sauce. It was soft and tender and the tuna sauce gave it a bit of zing. I enjoyed the tomatoes that came with it because it was succulent and you can tell it was fresh & devoid of any chemicals.
Butter Lettuce Salad ($20.00)
I love a good salad. This contains pancetta (an Italian bacon), hazelnuts, Gorgonzola cheese and egg. I love that the lettuce was fresh and not wilted. The fine combination of all ingredients make this a good salad for light dining choices.
Puglia Burratina ($26.00)
This looks so lovely and delicate. I heard that this is one of the favourite dish of customers that they couldn’t help coming back in District 10 just for this. This is made of Italian cheese and cream with organic tomato – basil bruschetta. The burrata is cooked so beautifully, I wouldn’t wonder why people would keep coming back for this. It was creamy and tasty. Again, I just love the organic tomatoes of District 10.
Mains:
45 Days Dry-Aged Corn-Fed US Prime OP Rib
($20 per 100 gm/ minimum of 500 gm)
After taking a piece of this meat, I think I have died happily in steak heaven. I am not exaggerating! I have never tasted steak this good. It was grilled to medium rare perfection and you can see the juices coming out from the meat. It was tender and surprisingly popping with flavours and to think they just rubbed oil and salt on the meat. I love the chewy ends as well.
45 Days Home Dry-Aged Corn-Fed US Prime Traditional Fiorentina Steak
($22 per 100 gm/ minimum of 800 gm)
We also had a T-bone steak which is cooked similarly as the OP rib. It has the same premium quality taste enhanced by the power of dry-aging and charcoal-grilling. This has more lean meat though I prefer the OP Rib because I enjoy the chewy ends.
Desserts:
Bitter Chocolate – Marshmallow Fluff with Caramelised Banana ($14.00)
Hubby and I love deserts and this didn’t disappoint. I am a fan of dark chocolate. This contains a dark chocolate ice cream between a breaded crust and a glazed marshmallow. The different textures of this dish adds a great chemistry to your dining experience. My hubby enjoyed eating the caramelised bananas too.
Profiterole filled with Chestnut ($18.00)
This is a French pastry ball that reminds me of a mini-version of eclairs. This contains a yummy chestnut cream and drizzled with warm chocolate sauce. It was fluffy and light. I would prefer more chestnut cream in the balls. Though, it’s no denying that this one is an instagram-worthy dish.
They have served a cocktail drink which I have to pass to my husband because of my pregnant state.
Fruit of Angel ($18.00)
This contain Plantation Original Dark rum, homemade papaya syrup, fresh lemon juice and thyme. My husband describes it as a light cocktail with a citrusy kick and the dark rum was expertly infused in the drink.
It was a lovely night to enjoy dry-aged charcoal-grilled premium meats with equally yummy appetizers and desserts together with fellow food-lovers. And it was plus to experience this steak-heaven with my husband. District 10 Bar & Restaurant is the place to head to if you want one of the best tasting steak in Singapore.
