DON LECHON, FILIPINO LECHON RESTAURANT IN SINGAPORE

Don Lechon Singapore

I let you in a little tradition that my hubby and I have before we got married. When we are having a good day, we always have our “Lechon Day” in our favorite restaurant in our hometown in Iloilo City. When we shifted here in Singapore, finding a Filipino restaurant that serves good Lechon can be challenging. Lechon is a popular roasted pig dish often served in Filipino parties and to celebrate a grant occasion. It is cooked by skewering the whole pig with large sticks with the entrails removed, placed over a pit of hot charcoal for hours. The pig would be roasted for hours which would create that distinct crispy pig skin which crackles with a yummy crunch when you sink you teeth in. It is also best dipped in a yummy sweet liver sauce.

My hubby and I were ecstatic to know that there is a Lechon restaurant in the East of Singapore, near our place called Don Lechon. It is just a few minutes from Paya Lebar MRT. It is owned by a very friendly and charismatic Filipino, Mr. Krisanto Bibal. It is found just behind the GrandLink Square. You get to enjoy your Lechon and other Filipino dishes al fresco with a great view overlooking the river. I guess hubby and I can now go back to our “Lechon Days”. We took our eldest son with us in our trip to Don Lechon.

Look at the feast we had. We miss a lot of Filipino dishes and of course, there should always be a lechon.

The Lechon is the highlight of all the dishes. The crunch of the pig’s skin is perfectly dipped in a liver sauce. The flavor of the lechon reminds me of what a good lechons supposed to be. It is a taste that would want you to keep coming back again and again.

Lechon Sinigang Rice Meal ($11.50)

This favorite flavourful sourish soup is a comfort food for most of Filipinos. I love drizzling the soup over my rice and having it on a cold rainy day. The soup contains fried lechon parts that are soft and juicy.

Lechon Sisig Rice Meal ($11.50)

This has a generous serving, great for sharing with family and friends. It is a cut-up pieces of lechon cooked in a hot plate with a fresh egg on top. It is best to mix the egg while the hot plate is still very hot to cook the egg. Don Lechon cooks all their food upon ordering to preserve its quality.

Lechon Kare-Kare ($7.50)

I love Kare-Kare! But I have never tried Lechon Kare-Kare and it is so yummy! It js in peanut-buttery sauce with all the vegetables thrown in and of course, the roasted lechon chunks dips into the yellow sauce. It is best with this sourish shrimp paste condiment called Bagoong.

Lechon Paksiw ($6.00)

Lechon Paksiw is another dish that my hubby and I miss because we often can’t have that here in Singapore. It is a dish with lechon in it with oily sweet brown sauce marinating it. It is a very yummy indulgent dish.

Bopis ($5.50)

Don Lechon Singapore

This is a unique Filipino dish made up of cut-up pork liver and heart sauteed in onions, chillies and tomatoes. It is an interesting dish for those who wants to venture on a different type of Filipino food. This Don Lechon speciality was showcase in a Esquire Singapore magazine as one of the interesting dishes to try.

For those interested to get as ala carte, here are the prices:

Chopped Lechon: $38/kg and $20/0.5kg

Sinigang: $11

Lechon Sisig: $14

Lechon Paksiw: $12

Bopis: $12

Extra Rice: $1

They also have a whole lechon (22-27kg) for $650 as well as Lechon Ulo for $60 on a pre-order basis. They do deliveries with corresponding delivery fee.

We are so glad to have discovered this great Filipino restaurant that my hubby and I can often go to as well as a great place dining place with our Filipino friends. If I want to introduce my non-Filipino friends to Filipino cuisine, this is the place to take them. We noticed that a lot of people were dining at Don Lechon when we went there. It was great find, indeed.

Do visit them and let us know what you think. Here is a bonus point that you should know. If you go there and it’s your birthday, one dish is on them! Isn’t that cool?

Don Lechon is a must-try restaurant if you are a Pinoy who misses the Lechon or someone who has never tried any Filipino dishes before, this is the place for u to go.
