HART OF DIXIE

I got caught up with this new TV Show of Hart of Dixie. I heard that this is a series about a New York doctor named Dr. Zoe Hart, played by the charming Rachel Bilson. She is an aspiring surgeon who end up in a small town called Bluebell as a general practitioner due to unexpected events in her life. The story doesn’t revolve around medical drama like ER or Grey’s Anatomy. It is more on relationships, about adapting to a different environment and about a woman learning to  be accepted in  a place where she may seem like fish out of water. Apart from loving the outfit of Dr. Zoe Hart’s  arch-nemesis, Lemon Breeland in the show, I like that I can identify with what Zoe Hart is going through, a doctor figuring out the ropes in a new atmosphere and proving herself amidst possible doubting Thomases. Though I see how mediocre (and bordering-on-bad) the writers of this show are and some medical informations come off as not well-research, I still manage to get hooked by this series. Rachel Bilson got a lot of flak to be picked as the lead start of the show. Critics say she isn’t a good enough actress ( I am not gonna argue with the critics here. I believe Jaime King is a much better actor than her) and she doesnt look like a doctor at all. Well, if the show’s critics isnt convinced that a minuscule, pubescent-looking lady wearing shortie-shorts or booties can be a doctor, they can look for a certain barely-five feet Filipina doctor working in Singapore who always get a surprised look when people learn she is actually  a doctor. But this made me realize that a show can still be sucessful even with mediocre screenwriters (their plot and love stories can be topsy-turvy and incoherent at times). Ingredients of a successful series would be an IT celebrity with a large following (Rachel Bilson), great costume designers ( clothes & accessories  of Lemon Breeland) and a hot dude ( Wade Kisella, Dr. Zoe Hart’s other love interest, played Wilson Bethel, Yes Zoe Hart got hot two love interest on the show. Lucky girl!). They must be doing something right because, well, the show will have a third season, to be aired on October 2013.

Talking about Wilson Bethel, this hot dude (which I am also seriously crushing on currently) created a spoof video starring him,  Rachel Bilson along with other cast members of the Hart of Dixie to address some of the critics of Rachel Bilson. It so funny and  great way to respond to naysayers..

Watch this funny video that got viral after it was posted:

A DAY AT STA. BARBARA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB, ILOILO

August 8, 2011 by Little Miss Honey 582 Comments

Family Medicine Resident Doctors are the favorites when it comes to requesting doctors for medical mission. I guess it has to do with the versatility of our specialization (Self-praise ba? Harharhar!). We get to treat both adult and kids illnesses with a dash of counseling. We are like a moisturizer that is also a foundation and a sunblock…. 3in1! You like my analogy? hehe… Anyways, when we were asked to help out in a medical mission at Sta. Barbara Golf Club. I was raising and waving my hand…Actually I was waving both my hands. I have lived in Iloilo most of my life except for the time I studied in Saudi Arabia when I was in high school but I have never been in Sta. Barbara Golf Club. Iloilo usually boast of it as one of the places to visit when in town. So I jump on the opportunity help out in their endeavor and  also, hehe, to take a peek on one of the landmarks of Iloilo City. The medical mission is a project of the officers & members of the lloilo Golf & Country Club headed by Mr. Henry Go with the help of the our ever-dynamic consultant, Dr. Florentino Alerta.

It was a fun and interesting medical mission. I’ve met and seen the colorful & very interesting people of Sta. Barbara. I was happy that they gladly oblige me to take their pics. Here are some of them:

“Master of Pain”
I love this little girl’s fuchsia dress. Her mom said they bought in an ukay-ukay shop for 50pesos. Cute!!!hehe
Pretty little girl willingly waits for her pic to be taken
Beautiful mom & child tandem
I love how this family have all their right hand on a part of their faces/heads. Ang cute! hehe …
This little girls looks like a future model from her body language & stance. Ice cream model, maybe?
They served us a very filling super-yummy pancit molo for snacks.

Still full with the yummy pancit molo, the organizers had already prepared a buffet lunch for us at the Country Club after we were done checking up patients. Mr. Go entertained us with the history of the Sta. Barbara Golf Course. It was once the place where the railway was made during 1907, linking Iloilo to other towns of Panay. While developing the said railway system, they also made a 2000 yard golf course with 9 hole lay-out. Before only British and American members are allowed to join the prestigious Sta. Barbara Golf Course & Country Club. Later, they allowed Filipinos to join namely Tomas Confessor, a hero of the Philippine Revolution and Governor of Iloilo during the American period and Fernando Lopez, who became Vice President of the Philippines. Now, the Sta. Barbara Golf & Country Club is a 40 hectare property with a 18 hole lay-out and is recognized by the National Institute of History as the “oldest existing golf course of the Philippines”. Ilongga pride brimming….

After lunch, Mr. Go graciously lent us two golfcarts to allow us to tour the place. We were like kids in a big big playground, hehe…

It was the perfect mix of work and play…. I had so much fun with my co-residents! Mr. Go already told us in advance that they will hold another medical mission this August and he want us to be part of it again! Maybe the next time I visit, they would let me play a little golf? hehe

Sha-wiiinggg!!!

I’ll see you soon, Sta. Barbs….. Vvvvvrrroooommmm!!!!
