FOOD DISCOVERIES: A SPOONFUL OF SUGAR

October 7, 2015 by Little Miss Honey 1,348 Comments

A Spoonful of Sugar

A Spoonful of Sugar

I didn’t realise that living in the East of Singapore, I have to advantage of  my proximity to Changi Village where there are a hidden finds of cafes and restaurants to choose from. One day after work, I met up with fellow Filipino blogger, Reg of Hey Rocket Girl at this cute café at Changi Village.

A Spoonful of Sugar is one of cute cafes in Changi Village that serves waffles, ice creams and pastries.

I love the interiors of the place. It is fun, dream-like and colourful. The place is quite small but they made perfect use of the space. There were miniature hot ballots and colourful pompoms with cool murals in the wall.

You can have the waffles in two ways: thin crispy waffles or the fluffy waffles topped with the ice cream of your choice and some sweet sprinkles.

Fluffy Waffles

I prefer the crispy thin waffles compared to the fluffy waffles. The thin waffles has a crunch to it and it has a different texture than the usual waffles we are used to. While the fluffy waffles is too thick and heavy in the tummy. There are also a lot of ice cream favours to choose from as well as toppings. I got a sea salt caramel and coffee flavoured ice cream.

There are several coffees to choose from also.

I like the presentation of their cafe arts. Their coffees were ok but not spectacular. They also have this yummy rainbow cake to go with the coffee.

If you want to get some sweet carbo-loaded fix at an adorable food spot , go to A Spoonful of Sugar to satisfy your cravings.

FOOD DISCOVERIES: DAPURKITA FOOD HALL (JOHOR BAHRU, MALAYSIA)

Dapurkita Food Hall

One lazy day when my sister was here in Singapore and we have a whole day of nothing to do, my sister and I together with my baby, Naj rode a bus to go to Malaysia. That is what is on of the great things about Singapore, it is so near from its neighbouring countries that it could just be minutes of bus ride away or an hour of ferry ride away.

Just around 30minutes of bus ride, we were in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. We found ourselves at City Square Mall. We were famished! We went to the top level  (Level 6) of the mall and saw DAPURKITA FOOD HALL. Yey from our tummies!

Dapurkita Food Hall

Dapurkita Food Hall serve local and international cuisine in different kiosks. We buy food by getting a card at the cashier and depositing a certain amount on the card. You will be using the card when you purchase from any of the food stalls.

I love the walls of this food hall. It have funny and cool quotes about food and eating. One foodie here is saying “Amen” to all those quotes.

I decided to get some fish and chips while my sister got the black pepper mee. Both were good especially my sister’s black pepper mee.

Naj was being very fussy that day so we decided to just hang out there and drink some Vietnamese coffee. There is the Chaiwalla and Co. Cafe stall. They serve Trung Nguyen coffee.

My sister and I have been searching for a very good Vietnamese coffee that would recreate the amazing iced coffee we drunk in our Vietnam travel. I got an iced coffee  while my sister got the hot Vietnamese coffee to keep up with my energetic infant. And I must say, the coffee was very good!

My nose was really stuffy that day and I was glad I brought my Havaroma aromastick. We used the lazy afternoon to play with the light and take pictures of our coffee using our mobile phones

September 1, 2014 by Little Miss Honey 204 Comments

chye seng huat hardware

We would have thought that coffee and hardware goes together perfectly . A good friend and colleague of mine told me that she went to have coffee in this hardware. What??!! Really?!! So when my sister visit me here in Singapore that is where we headed.

chye seng huat hardware

Chye Seng Huat Hardware‘s exterior is not that impressive. It looks like an innocent good ‘ol hardware but inside reveals a funky coffee shop for the hip and cool crowd.

My sister and I rode the MRT going to the coffeeshop and it was quite a walk from Lavender station. We were famished! We ordered a lot!

BLACK PEPPER PORK CHOP

pork ribs

Black Pepper Pork Chop 16 SGD

The carnivore in me is squealing  “oink! oink!” meaning I love it! The steak is full of rich flavour and tender. This comes with steamed veggies & mashed potatoes Do not be fooled by this moderate size meat because it is very filling.

THE HUAT BREAKFAST

The Huat Breakfast

                                                          The Huat Breakfast 17

This is a breakfast of champions. It contains two perfectly-scrambled eggs, two bacon slices, jumbo sausage, pastrami, grilled tomatoes, sautéed potatoes with buttered croissant. Doesn’t that just make you… burp! Oppsss…. Sorry.

PHILLY CHEESE STEAK SANDWICH

Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich

Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich 13 SGD

This sandwich surprised me of how good it is. It seem to me like a big boy’s sandwich. It has these thinly-sliced steak with melted cheese in a Turkish bread. It comes with tortilla chips on the sides.

FRENCH TOAST

French Toast

                                            French Toast 12 SGD

Doesn’t this look like perfection? Unfortunately, it was just that, pretty to look at but I wasn’t too impressed with it. It wasn’t that bad but it didn’t make my palate sing, if you know what I mean.

COCONUT CAKE WITH HOMEMADE LEMONADES

coconut cake with homemade lemonadesThe  coconut cake and homemade lemonades ($5) are combination for a refreshing snacks. They reminds me of summertime. They are not too sweet, just right.

CSHH ICED COFFEE

We finished up with their cold brewed coffee ($7). I was expecting a lot from this coffee but still, Forty Hands coffee is still first in my book until a better one comes along. But placing it in amber bottles is a nice touch.
