I rarely have celebrity crushes. But lately, I am starting to like Channing Tatum (well, maybe because he reminds me of my husband. That’s my opinion. Walang kokontra, haha). He was named as People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2012 and now a father to a cute baby girl Everly with his wife, actress Jenna Dewan. Now he is marketed as an action hero in the latest movie, White House Down. I decided I want to check it out.
SYNOPSIS: (from IMDB.com)
Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country.

REVIEW:
I think it is way too early to make a movie like this since Olympus has Fallen was just recently released with the same storyline. But the movie was packed with action and a lot of effects few minutes from start of the movie to finish. It was hard to keep up though. Channing Tatum came off as a credible action star in this movie. However, Jamie Foxx did poorly as President James Sawyer. If he is trying to be like President Obama, he is doing horribly. He doesn’t come off as a strong leader figure of the nation. He was trying to hard to be funny that I am wondering if this is an action movie or a very bad comedy. It is hard to reconcile that Jamie Foxx is an Oscar-winning actor and he is being out-shined by Channing Tatum (I am not biased here). The great revelation was Channing Tatum’s daughter in the movie, Joey King. I could see that she will come a long way and will grow up to be a stunning beautiful woman. Even with excellent actors like Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods and Jason Clarke can’t save the movie.
I give this movie a 2/5.
I think this youtube video collaboration of Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx with special participation of Jimmy Kimmel is more of a hit than the movie.
