I am so lucky to be working with colleagues who love food just as me, haha! Like what Julia Child say, “People who love to eat are always the best people.” After my maternity leave and Fynn & I are in Singapore, my colleagues arranged a Welcome-Back dinner for us at The Royals Cafe in Siglap.
The Royals Cafe has two branches. One in Siglap and one in Simei. I took my kids and my husband to the one in Siglap. There is a bus from our place to that branch. The interiors of the restaurant is very modest and simple. But what I like most about the place is the long table in the corner for kids to play Lego bricks. I love that the place is so kid-friendly. Naj was enjoying his time there. He cannot be disturbed at all, haha. He was having so much fun playing along with other kids in the restaurant.
The Royals Cafe in Simei is a little smaller than the one in Siglap. It is found outside the corner of EastPoint Mall facing the MRT station. You will be enjoying the food alfresco. The place looks like a dainty restaurant which reminds me of a Cath Kidston purse. There is a service water on the corner for customers to pour themselves a glass.

Signature Nyonya Mee Siam $5.90
This is their home-made recipe and they introduce it as “die-die-must-try!” dish. And I totally agree with them. Die-Die-Must-Try Lah! I haven’t tasted a lot of mee siam but I must say this is the best mee siam I ever tasted! It taste (and smell) soon delicious. It is at par in taste excellence with my favorite Singapore soup-based dish, the 328 Katong Laksa. It is a perfect comfort food. The bowl is huge with fresh ingredients and well-cooked rice vermicelli. They didnt scrimp on the ingredients. The prawns are huge and the hard-boiled egg is nicely-cut.
Nasi Lemak Classic $6.90
The Nasi Lemak was served with adequately portioned fragrant coconut rice with chicken wings, fish nibblets, fried egg, cucumbers, ikan bilis and peanuts. Though I prefer the Nasi Lemak at Changi Village still, what I like with their Nasi Lemak is that the coconut in the rice is not too overpowering. I never like the strong coconut taste in dishes.
Braised Lamb Shank $16.90
This dish is so huge, it must be shared (not unless you have a very big appetite). The lamb is slow-braised for 2 hours to give off it drip-off-the-bone tenderness. It is succulent and yummy with its brown gravy sauce. It comes with mashed potato and salad.
Pulled Beef Brisket & Swiss Cheese Sandwich $10.90
This is another winner! I love their juicy pulled braised beef brisket topped with melted swiss cheese in a homemade sourdough bread. I like munching on the chips that comes with it and the salad as well.
There are a lot of cake choices in The Royals Cafe. You can choose from the non-chocolate and chocolate cakes. It usually around 600g and 1kg with prices ranging from $33 to $58. On my Welcome-Back dinner, my colleagues got me a pretty Chocolate Truffle Cake.
You can also get it in slices. We got a Rainbow Cake Slice which is very citrusy & not too sweet and a Grandma’s Chocolate Slice which is more of my-kind-of cake. I love the fudgy chocolate icing and the moistness of the cake itself.

You can have the cakes delivered in your home and your work place as gift or if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary with a minimum delivery charge. My colleagues often make use of their cake delivery service for birthday celebration.
I highly recommend The Royal Cafe for their mee siam, their cakes and their child-friendly environment in their Siglap branch. I am happy to say they are also Halal-certified which is a great news for my Muslim friends. I can’t wait to visit again to satisfy my craving for their signature mee siam.
