STRAITS KITCHEN

December 22, 2014 by Little Miss Honey 1,358 Comments

Straits Kitchen

Our company had our yearly dinner-out last month. We often have this get-together to foster bonding with fellow workmates which I think is very important in having a healthy work environment. We were asked to choose between two restaurants. I ticked STRAITS KITCHEN because I researched online that it serves local Singapore foods which I am very interested to know “in-depth” considering I have been here for more than two years. I know the chilli crabs, chicken rice, satay, prawn mee. I am hoping to know more of the foods I have missed out trying. And lucky me, Straits Kitchen got the most ticks. Hello Singapore foods!

Straits Kitchen

Straits Kitchen is located inside Grand Hyatt Hotel. The interiors are impressive and wide. It have a modern design that doesn’t adhere to any hint of influence of ethnicity. There were kitchenwares, dining wares and coloured bottles displayed on the walls of the place. The place was so dim-lit. I prefer to see my food better. The placement of the buffet table was a bit awkward and weird for me.

There were  a lot of different local foods that I realized I haven’t tasted at all. The Indian cuisine was particularly something that I was not very well-acquainted with.

I can’t really handle too spicy food so eating Indian food made my mouth burn, haha… But the masalas were really good in spite of the spiciness.

My tummy was in the getting-to-know-you phase with the new foods that night. Honestly though, none of the foods made me jump for joy of yumminess except for only one: The famous Chilli Crab. I have tried several chilli crabs in Singapore but I wasn’t really too impressed with it except for the Chilli Crabs in Straits Kitchen. I came back for two-three second helpings. It is great with the fried mantou bread which is not greasy at all.

The desserts were not my kind of desserts. They are most made of sticky rice like those made during All Souls Day in the Philippines. And the ice cream and sherbet flavours were a bit foreign to my taste.

It was a great experience to taste the other local foods I haven’t tried yet. I am happy that I discovered the ‘best’ Chilli Crabs in Singapore. This was the only place I gotten to appreciate the famous Chilli Crabs of Singapore. My tastebuds have yet to be more accustomed to some local foods. I am getting there… Soon…

Thank you for the gastronomic Singapore experience, Straits Kitchen.

SAKURA INTERNATIONAL BUFFET

August 17, 2014 by Little Miss Honey 1,255 Comments

When me and husband’s off-workday schedule coincide , we usually go on dates (well, if we are both not in our lazy mood, hehe). We both love food!!! We had a temporary obsession to Ben & Jerry Ice Cream. I told him of this buffet restaurant that serves eat-all-you can Ben & Jerry Ice Cream. So that is where we headed to.

Sakura International Buffet Restaurant serves a wide range of dishes not only restricted to Japanese cuisine despite the name. Of course, there is the unlimited Ben & Jerry ice cream. It is good to note that they serve halal foods for our Muslim brother and sisters.

Most people doesn’t rave too much about this buffet restaurant but me and hubby are quite happy customers. We were so full, its like our stomaches are going too explode. Hahaha!
