GAKSIMIL SENSE BREASTPUMP REVIEW (& TIPS ON HOW TO INCREASE BREASTMILK SUPPLY)

August 22, 2016 by Little Miss Honey 1,732 Comments

Gaksimil Sense Breast Pump

Any breastfeeding moms out there? August is known to be the official breastfeeding month. How are all your breastfeeding journeys so far?

I am well-aware of the struggles of a working breastfeeding mom. Fynn is 5 months old now and I am still mix-feeding him with breastmilk and formula milk. It is not easy and never been easy for me to continue breastfeeding my infant while working full-time and struggling with low breastmilk supply. I hope to breastfeed until he turns 1-year-old at least. I have breastfed Naj until 7 months old. My supply just dropped drastically when Naj turned 7 months so I have no choice but to put him exclusively on formula milk. I missed breastfeeding him when I gave it up. He refused the breast when my supply dipped. Maybe now on my second try in breastfeeding, I would be more successful, using my lessons and mistakes from my breastfeeding journey with Naj.

So here are the 1st two tips in maintaining a good breastmilk supply:

  • Pump frequently at least every 2 hours if you are away from your baby
  •  Get a good breast pump

That being said, let me introduce to you a new discovery, Gaksimil Sense Breastpump. It is a breastpump originated from Korea. It is 100% made in Korea.It comes in a white and soft pink color. It looks very pretty to carry around. It is also very light weight that you would initally doubt it can provide you the pumping power you would need. It only weighs 256 grams!

Searching for a good breast pump, you need to look for specific things like:

– Electric pump

– Double pump

– Suction power

– Portability

– BPA- Free

– Quiet pump

Gaksimil Sense Breastpump is an electric pump powered by attaching to a power source or by a 4 AA batteries. Electric breast pumps produce more milk than manual pumps. Gaksimil Sense also is a double pump but can be use as singe pump too. Though it  is still best to pump & stimulate both breast simultaneously. This breastpump has a massage mode to facilitate your let-down which mimics the baby’s initial suckling. It has 81 combination of pressure and frequency control with 9 suctions cycles and 9 levels of pressure control. I was super-duper impressed with  suction power! My husband commented on how much milk I pumped when I was using this breastpump. I even just used level 6 and it was sufficient already. I love that it is tiny and so light. I can put it in my small Kate Spade bag when I go to work. I don’t have to complain on carrying heavy load when I am out and about. One of my trick to increase my supply and keeping up with my 2-hourly pumping is pumping anywhere and everywhere. I just put on my trusty breastfeeding apron and pump anywhere hands-free using my handsfree bra. Gaksimil Sense is so quiet that no one would know that I am pumping from where I am. Yes, I pump in restaurants, in bus stops and even while doing grocery. The breastpump automatically turns off after 30 minutes. I love that it is BPA-free and the breast flanges & bottles are easy to clean. Gaksimil Sense is made in such a way that there is a 100% prevention of backflow of milk to the motor. I really hate when back flow happens to why breastpumps. So in my mommy book, Gaksimil Sense Breastpump is a winner. It would be a good partner in achieving my breastfeeding goals for my son.

Here are a few more tips to increase breastmilk supply:

– nurse frequently if you are with your baby

– drink loads of water

– eat a lot of galactogogues food like oatmeal, salmon, avocados, oyster, papaya, etc.

– take supplements like Fenugreek, Mother’s Milk Tea etc.

– Check baby’s latch or correct baby’s latch

– Check attachment of your breastpump on your breast (yes, I realized wrong attachment like nipple not being center of flanges can impede the flow of milk)

– Make sure you use correct size of breastpump flange

– Don’t stress

– Consult lactation specialist

NO-JUDGMENT MOTHERHOOD

May 9, 2016 by Little Miss Honey 277 Comments

motherhood

Last Sunday was Mothers’ Day. Allow me to share you my thoughts on motherhood. You see, I am not one of those girls who always dreamed of being a mother. I rarely play with dolls and pretend they are are my kids. when i was younger, I dreamt of becoming a wife and I don’t mind not being a mother at all. I guess the notion of taking of a fragile human being and being responsible for how he/she turns up scares the hell out of me. Now, it is surreal that I am currently a mother of two (boys!). I never realised the joy of motherhood until I am a mother myself. It is like a secret society where you can only understand the unique language of mothers until you become immersed into that role. Now I get it why mothers love talking ‘annoyingly’ about their kids  and flashing the photos of their kids to other people unnecessarily. But I have to say though, motherhood is not a walk in the park either. It is not for the faint-hearted. Believe me when I say it’s hard. It is really hard being a mother. First of all, it takes a toll on your body. You endure sleepless night changing diapers & feeding them. Nobody told me the pain of breastfeeding and the time you have to spend to store breastmilk for your little one. The ache & pains of your body carrying heavy diaper bag, picking up a toddler’s toys and carrying them. Did I mention that your body will never return back to the way it used to be – you have been marked – scars, stretchmarks and all? But apparently all these are nothing compared to the love you feel for your children. It is unexplainable. My heart swells 10x bigger than its original size when I think of them. I love them so much that I couldn’t believe I can love someone that I just met. And everyday my love for them grows deeper and deeper.

motherhood

Motherhood has changed me and made me a better person. My children inspires me to become someone they will admire and be proud of. Though honestly half of the time I don’t know if I am doing it right. Am I neglecting them? Am I spoiling them by doing this? Am I being too strict and rigid? It is a series of trial & errors and I am praying that I am not doing more errors than the right ones. It is funny that when you become a mother, you get a thousand of unsolicited advice from people who think they know better. Especially now, mothers are bombarded with so many information. Some of them are contradicting that it is hard to keep up which to follow. There are gazillions of baby books claiming the “shoulds” of taking care of your baby and child-rearing. When I had my first son, I aspired to be that  mom who does exclusive breastfeeding, uses only cloth diapers, feeds her baby only organic puree real food, does baby-wearing and does everything singlehandedly without a nanny. But I realised I cannot do it all. Yes, some supermoms can but I have to admit I couldn’t be a supermom. I felt guilty that after my firstborn turned 7-months I cannot exclusively breastfeed him because of my dwindling milk supply and have to switch to mixed feeding with formula. I find using the regular diapers far more convenient so we ditched the cloth diaper all together. I am a full-time working mom so it was a lot of effort in my part in making baby food for a week  & freeze it which my baby doesn’t seem to like eating at all that end up I buying ready-made baby food in the grocery. I feel like a total failure. I hate admitting those “deadly sins” to moms who can do it all. But just because I can’t be the supermom that the society paints what a mom should be that doesn’t mean I love my kids any less. Take  a look at this video.

Motherhood is not a competition. There is no school how to be a perfect mother so we do our best and learn as we go along. Now that I have another baby, I have learned to relax a bit and enjoy being a mom to him and my toddler without pressuring myself to be perfect. Time flies you see. I prefer to hug then a little longer, stare at their innocent eyes and hear them giggle.  I may not have the super-skills to do everything (though I couldn’t help but be proud that I can do most things one-handed, multitasks without blinking, wake up a few times at night without being sleepy at work – I think those are some mommy powers right there), but I know that I am doing my very best. All mothers are doing their very best. Let us celebrate all the mothers in the world. I know first hand how hard it. I now have appreciated my mom even more now that I am a mother. It may be hard. It may take away most of my precious time. It may cause my body to sag and inflate with scars & cellulite. It may cause me heartaches now and then. It may turn me into a worry-wart . It may cause me to lose my patience. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love being a mom. I thank God every day for the gift of motherhood. Motherhood taught me the real meaning of  true love.

5 INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN – BELATED HAPPY WOMEN’S DAY

March 13, 2015 by Little Miss Honey 2,190 Comments

If I were to live all over again, I would still choose to be born as a woman. I love the complexities of womanity. I love that being a woman can be represented in many shapes and sizes with different roles and different strengths.  I love the lyrical contrast of daintiness with inner strength; physically strong but maternal; opinionated but spiritual; nurturing but can stand alone. We are filled with emotions and a great capacity to love & be loved.

Last March 8, we celebrated International Women’s Day. This is to empower us women of our strength, our significant role in the society and celebrate being a woman.

For my regular Little Miss Honey Five Fridays, I will be featuring Five Inspirational Women who embodies different types of qualities admirable in a woman.

1. AUDREY HEPBURN

 @ms_audrehepburn

Audrey Hepburn have to be in this list. She has been and always will be my icon. Not only did she inspire women with her fashion and her exemplary performances in her movies, she showed that women represent KINDNESS. She was a Unicef ambassador for years and have tirelessly served the poor and the stricken population in some parts of Africa. No one has spoken anything negative about her. Another testament of her kindness is that she managed to forgive her father who left them when she was still young and she even provided for him & took care of him until he passed away.

2. OPRAH WINFREY

@oprah

In 2010, Oprah Winfrey was named as one of the 100 people who changed the world in Life magazine. Oprah showed that women represent SELF-EMPOWERMENT. She is, no doubt,  one of the most powerful and richest TV personality. She has influenced a great number of people. Her mantra is all about “Believing in yourself ” and “Being the best you”. She encouraged that same philosophy that is being preached in the book “THE SECRET”.

2 . MAYIM BIALIK

@mayimbialikbr

We would recognized Mayim from her childhood performances as the young Bette Midler in the movie Beaches or as the cheeky Blossoms in the hit TV series. Now she came back in the TV scene to play the role of Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler, a neuroscientist. It can be daunting to play genius, right? But not to Mayim because she is herself a neuroscientist. She studied neuroscience and proceed to that a doctorate degree. Mayim showed women that INTELLIGENCE is beautiful. Women should stop acting stupid to be cute. Intelligence is something to be proud and not to be ashamed of. She is also a strong advocate of breastfeeding.

4. SIA ALEXIS  of DIARY OF A FIT MOMMY

Diary of A Fit Mommy

Here is another breastfeeding advocate. This sexy mommy blogger inspires mommies all around the globe to be fit, healthy and to love their bodies. She shows women that we have the STRENGTH. We have control over our own bodies. Strong is the new sexy. Skinny is out. In her blog, Diary of A Fit Mommy, she shares helpful tips in getting the body we want. She proves to people that she can be strong and still be maternal to her son and sweet & loving to her husband.

5. LESLIE LUDY

setapartgirl.com

Leslie Ludy is a best-selling Christian writer. She and her husband, Eric, wrote the book When God Writes Your Love Story which I read before when I was still in medical school. She has six kids, biological and adopted. She enjoys being a mother, accepting the natural chaos of a household full of kids. She represents MOTHERHOOD & SPIRITUALITY. She sets perfect example for young women in her ministry, ASETAPARTGIRL, where she equips young women to live a Christ-centered femininity.
