December 28, 2015 by Little Miss Honey 746 Comments

Woolf works

Last 14th of December, I was happy to  attend another #BlogMeetSg gathering at Woolf Works in Joo Chiat Road. I always look forward to a #BlogMeetSg gathering. #BlogMeetSg, founded by the beautiful Lucy of Lulabelle Lifestyle, are a series of fun  & intimate gatherings among  bloggers  and brands in Singapore to network and create a harmonious relationship in and out of the blogosphere.

I was greeted by Lucy upon entering Woolf Works and the session started soon after. The place looks charming with wide spaces, yellow wooden panel windows and quirky decors.

It was great to see familiar and new faces that night. Lucy gave an introduction of what we will be expecting for this BlogMeetSg gathering. We  are all excited and expecting a productive & enlightening night.

We were introduced to Michaela, founder & director of Woolf Works.  Woolf Works is a  relatively new and nteresting concept to me. It is a co-working space dedicated for women. There is  growing community of WAHM (Work-At-Home-Moms) and somehow this space provides a place for this growing community, considering that working alone at home can be lonely. There is often a need for community, to feel connected, to have a place to be more productive. This place is perfect for freelancers, business owners, bloggers or writers, consultants and business pre-launchers. This is an answer to women who are trying to balance a growing business with their growing family.

Founder of Woolf Works

Woolf Works is named after the famous writer, Virgina Woolf who wrote ‘A Room of Ones’ Own‘ which echoes the objective of the place where there is a need for a separate space for women to be creative and productive. You can sign up for a membership plan depending on what fits best for you. It is very flexible enough to cater to everyones’ needs. Check out their membership plans here. All members has access to fast wifi, free printing & scanning, use of free kitchen facilities and free coffee & tea.

That night, we also got to enjoy healthy nibbles and refreshments courtesy of Artisan Boulangerie Co. Artisan Boulangerie Co. is a contemporary bakery with French influences led by award-winning baker, Eran Mayer. They have teamed up with a nutritionist to provide healthier options for customers. We enjoyed the foods provided that night. Who says healthy food are boring and bland? So not true.

We were privileged that night to meet and hear Dr. David Stewart talk about Young Living Essential Oils. I love essential oils especially after learning of its wide range of benefits and versatility after attending an Aromatherapy Workshop. I also love burning essential oils at night to give your room a relaxing and fragrant atmosphere. So I was really looking forward for Dr. Stewart to supplement me more knowledge on essential oils.

Young Essentials Oils

We were introduced to the different type of essential oils and we get to take a quick sniff of each of the products. It was great to know the history of essentials oils that it is even dates back to olden time and are often mentioned in the Bible. Essential oils can also play a very big part in healing of ailments.

After an educational talk by Dr. David Stewart, we had another speaker for tonight to help us to be more productive with our blogs. We were happy to meet Olivia Chiong of the Unbusy Entrepreneur who introduced to us the P.L.A.N. – a foolproof guide to improve our blogs.

Unbusy Entrepreneur

By not giving all away, I will share with you some of the tips Olivia taught us that night. It involves planning blog schedule and sticking to it, using automated applications, learning more of google alerts, trending topics & google algorithms and understanding the benefits of having mailing list subscriptions for our readers.

It was definitely another successful #BlogMeetSg. Thank you Lucy for inviting me to this wonderful event. To be more updated for more #BlogMeetSg gathering, subscribe to Lulabelle Lifestyle Facebook Page.

BRANDING YOURSELF

Pinterest Board for blog branding

I know it sounds so… cold and pretentious? Why would you think you are a commodity by branding yourself. The first time I heard of “branding” is in one of the episodes of Entourage when agencies are pitching to Vinny Chase their services. But looking at the high-tech society now, there is actually an importance and a big advantage of knowing how to brand yourself. It can advance your career, attract opportunities, allows you more decisive decisions, earn more and make friends with like-minded people. The list of advantages are endless.

As a blogger, I have slowly understand how important is branding to direct how you want your blog to be presented. Somehow as you slowly discover your brand and particular niche, you have a  guide and focus on your blog. But you also get to learn more about who you truly and what you value. Believe me, understanding your brand will not only give your better directon for your blog but as well as for yourself.

A few months ago, I was privileged to join the Blogger Babes Asia workshop organised by Clozette. Blogger Babes Founder, Heidi Nazarudin, is the speaker for the event. She is also the person behind the successful fashion & beauty blog for stylish working women, The Ambiotionista.

Heidi was simply amazing. She taught  us that afternoon how to be an effective blogger. She was concise and very generous with her advice. Her talk inspired me to reexamine my blog. She said that the reasons most blog fail is because  not spending too much time in  branding and content development. She explained that branding is the conscious creation of a uniform message in all forms of communication, be it your blog design, photos & graphics social media chances, blog voice or style of writing and your style & personality.

Branding yourself

Here are some questions for you  given by Heidi to answer to understand your brand and improve your blog content:

  1. Who are your core readers?
  2. What are your main interest?
  3. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  4. Is your content useful or entertaining?

If you are serious in blogging or your business or career, I suggest you take some time alone to reflect on your branding. Then rope in a friend, better yet,  a blogger friend, and get feedbacks of each other blogs. It is helpful in so many ways. After I contemplated into it, I felt a better direction for my blog and it even saved me of my constant shopping dilemma. I dread clothes shopping, I just dont know how to decide on a dress after years of being used to wearing hand-me downs and clothes bought by my mom for me. Understanding my branding, I know what kind of clothes that would best suit me.

I realized I am all about sweetness (hence, my name. ehem.. ehem..), femininity, inspiration and positivity. Blush pink and mint greens are colors that best represent me which I did incorporate in blog design. My blog is offer inspiration for myself and people who drops by my blog.

There was also lucky draw after Heidi’s talk. I was ecstatic to win the Aurum  by Guðbjörg Jewelry voucher. I got these babies all the way from Iceland. Lovely, isn’t it?

I also got to see a lot of familiar faces and met new fashion & beauty bloggers as well. I was happy chatting with the fashionable and beautiful people behind Clozette.

FOOD DISCOVERIES: ALFRESCO GUSTO

Food Discoveries: Alfresco Gusto Singapore

Food Discoveries: Alfresco Gusto Singapore

A few Sunday mornings ago, three lady bloggers went out to attend a beauty & health talk and a few hours after, they find themselves in search for a good brunch place.

They stumbled into Alfresco Gusto after finding it in their Entertainer App. In case you haven’t figured it out, I am one of the lady bloggers, hehe.

Alfresco Gusto is an Italian restaurant found at the street level of Ion Orchard. Though Alfresco Gusto offers an alfresco dining. We opted to dine inside. The inside dining is not reeky spacious but I love the neutral grey tones of the place and the comfortable sofa chairs.

They were offering the weekend brunch menu and we were famished. We ordered several dishes for sharing.

Panu Mozzarella  ($18.00)

Brunch at Alfresco Gusto Ion Orchard

This is a soft brioche stuffed with melted mozzarella cheese. It has cream cheese and maple syrup on the side with toppings of berries. This is every bit a French toast. I ordered this one and I was so happy I did. I love how they made this. It wasn’t too soft nor too hard. I love the cheese in it. And it is perfect with the cream cheese and maple syrup. I can just come back for this one.

SMOKE SALMON BENEDICT ($24.00)

Smoke Salmon Benedict

Smoke Salmon Benedict

This is a pretty sight. This is a smoke salmon with hash brown, avocado and hollandaise sauce on top on a bed of arugula. And on top of it all is a poached egg. However, I am not into salmon these days. It was alright. But I believe they have created a perfect poached egg.

SPINACH SCRAMBLED EGG ($ 18.00)

Spinach Scrambled Eggs

This has scrambled eggs with sautéed spinach on top of a Portobello mushroom and nicely decorated thinly sliced pumpkin. It also has a hashbrown on the side. One of us said, “Where is the scrambled egg?” I think there is more spinach than egg in this. I am not really a big fan of this dish. It is not spectacular, just okay. And the hash brown is a bit too dry.

GUSTO BIG BREAKFAST ($26.00)

Best Brunch Place in Singapore

We, girls, were so hungry, we also got the Gusto Big Breakfast which has eggs, hash brown, streaky bacon, pork sausage,  grilled tomato and 4 loaves of bread. It came with spread which I am not sure if it’s a marmalade spread or sweet pumpkin spread. This is a good brunch choice is if you are very hungry. Every thing is on the plate. You get to choose how you want your eggs to be cooked.

It’s great place for brunch before you start your shopping spree. I would love to take my husband here for brunch one of these days. You will get a great deal if you have an Entertainer App to get a the Buy-1-Get-1 offer.
