FOOD DISCOVERIES: DAPURKITA FOOD HALL (JOHOR BAHRU, MALAYSIA)

Dapurkita Food Hall

One lazy day when my sister was here in Singapore and we have a whole day of nothing to do, my sister and I together with my baby, Naj rode a bus to go to Malaysia. That is what is on of the great things about Singapore, it is so near from its neighbouring countries that it could just be minutes of bus ride away or an hour of ferry ride away.

Just around 30minutes of bus ride, we were in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. We found ourselves at City Square Mall. We were famished! We went to the top level  (Level 6) of the mall and saw DAPURKITA FOOD HALL. Yey from our tummies!

Dapurkita Food Hall serve local and international cuisine in different kiosks. We buy food by getting a card at the cashier and depositing a certain amount on the card. You will be using the card when you purchase from any of the food stalls.

I love the walls of this food hall. It have funny and cool quotes about food and eating. One foodie here is saying “Amen” to all those quotes.

I decided to get some fish and chips while my sister got the black pepper mee. Both were good especially my sister’s black pepper mee.

Naj was being very fussy that day so we decided to just hang out there and drink some Vietnamese coffee. There is the Chaiwalla and Co. Cafe stall. They serve Trung Nguyen coffee.

My sister and I have been searching for a very good Vietnamese coffee that would recreate the amazing iced coffee we drunk in our Vietnam travel. I got an iced coffee  while my sister got the hot Vietnamese coffee to keep up with my energetic infant. And I must say, the coffee was very good!

My nose was really stuffy that day and I was glad I brought my Havaroma aromastick. We used the lazy afternoon to play with the light and take pictures of our coffee using our mobile phones

THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

February 1, 2015 by Little Miss Honey 219 Comments

aunt and naj

This week was filled with a lot of happenings. It started with a good news from the mailbox. I am happy to receive a cheque from an article I made. It may not be much but it validates what I do and what I love to do. However, it was also quite sad because this week, my mother-in-law have to go back to the Philippines. Naj has really gotten use to having her with him. They have this sweet grandma-grandson bond.

This week, our little one turned 7months! Wow, how time flies! It is his first time to celebrate  his monthly celebration with his Aunt Ping.

Our little one also is excited to walk on his own. He got strong legs, this one. At this early age, you can tell Naj craves for independence. When I try to feed him, he want to hold the spoon and feed himself. My hubby found a walker in good condition for only $15. (Call us cheapskates, hehe. I say, we are practical.) Now, he is happily walking around our condominium apartment. I just have to baby-proof our unit now. I mean ASAP.

I found in my doctor’s box this week, an envelope  from an old colleague. It was a thank you note for the time she worked in our clinic, along with two tickets for the MINT Toy Museum. Isn’t that sweet?

I have been addicted with the 73 questions with Vogue. I enjoy watching the videos with different celebrities. I know I shared before the one with Blake Lively. My favourite is the one with Sarah Jessica Parker. She is charming and nice during the interview. Her home has this chaotic New York charm and very unpretentious. But you can really see that she has gotten older. I like that she manage to keep her marriage intact inspite of the infidelity rumours.

Wow, it is February already. Happy February 1st, everyone! Next week is fully packed with lots of activities, I am so excited! Plus in awhile, my parents are coming home from Saudi Arabia. They are retiring for good. But they are dropping Singapore for a few days to meet Naj. Yes, its their first time to see Naj. This is a great start of the month.

THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

aunt & nephew

Last week, I am so happy that my sister was here in Singapore. Last Monday, she left for Manila already. I love my sister, she is my best friend. I enjoy trying out new restaurants, hang out in quirky cafes and talk non-stop about anything. I love that she get to  have some play time with Naj. I believe she has mastered the art of ‘auntie-ing’. She will be coming back soon to stay a bit longer.

Even with a busy start of the week at work, I was glad the pace at work got slower midweek. And I even got a surprising treat from a patient last Wednesday. She came over the clinic to bring some cute balloons she made for me. It was such a heartwarming gesture. I was touched and grateful.

Yesterday, I was on my annual leave to attend this workshop on The Art of Visual Storytelling conducted by Bloesom at my favorite neighbourhood in Singapore in Tiong Bahru. I learned the importance of creating strong visuals for my blog which I still have a long way to learn. So if there are any friendly photographers out there who would willingly give me tips, I would be very happy to learn more. Our class also get to try a little bit of Photoshop. I am still struggling with it since I am used to Picasa or my Camera360 in my iPhone, hehe.

This week, we are sort of preparing for the week ahead. It will be my hubby’s birthday tomorrow, my mother-in-law will be leaving soon for the Philippines and my parents might be visiting Singapore next week. I can’t wait to see my parents and for them to see Naj.

This week also, Pope Francis visited the Philippines. I am so inspired by the stories back home of their encounter with our Holy leader. Even non-Catholics respected him and feel a certain joy & peace when they met him. The Holy Spirit is alive and well and wants all of us to come back home to God. We have strayed so long far from Him. This is a year of spiritual renewal for all of us. Thank you Pope Francis for visiting the Philippines and reminding us of God’s love for us.
