5 INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN – BELATED HAPPY WOMEN’S DAY

March 13, 2015 by Little Miss Honey 2,245 Comments

If I were to live all over again, I would still choose to be born as a woman. I love the complexities of womanity. I love that being a woman can be represented in many shapes and sizes with different roles and different strengths.  I love the lyrical contrast of daintiness with inner strength; physically strong but maternal; opinionated but spiritual; nurturing but can stand alone. We are filled with emotions and a great capacity to love & be loved.

Last March 8, we celebrated International Women’s Day. This is to empower us women of our strength, our significant role in the society and celebrate being a woman.

For my regular Little Miss Honey Five Fridays, I will be featuring Five Inspirational Women who embodies different types of qualities admirable in a woman.

1. AUDREY HEPBURN

 @ms_audrehepburn

Audrey Hepburn have to be in this list. She has been and always will be my icon. Not only did she inspire women with her fashion and her exemplary performances in her movies, she showed that women represent KINDNESS. She was a Unicef ambassador for years and have tirelessly served the poor and the stricken population in some parts of Africa. No one has spoken anything negative about her. Another testament of her kindness is that she managed to forgive her father who left them when she was still young and she even provided for him & took care of him until he passed away.

2. OPRAH WINFREY

@oprah

In 2010, Oprah Winfrey was named as one of the 100 people who changed the world in Life magazine. Oprah showed that women represent SELF-EMPOWERMENT. She is, no doubt,  one of the most powerful and richest TV personality. She has influenced a great number of people. Her mantra is all about “Believing in yourself ” and “Being the best you”. She encouraged that same philosophy that is being preached in the book “THE SECRET”.

2 . MAYIM BIALIK

@mayimbialikbr

We would recognized Mayim from her childhood performances as the young Bette Midler in the movie Beaches or as the cheeky Blossoms in the hit TV series. Now she came back in the TV scene to play the role of Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler, a neuroscientist. It can be daunting to play genius, right? But not to Mayim because she is herself a neuroscientist. She studied neuroscience and proceed to that a doctorate degree. Mayim showed women that INTELLIGENCE is beautiful. Women should stop acting stupid to be cute. Intelligence is something to be proud and not to be ashamed of. She is also a strong advocate of breastfeeding.

4. SIA ALEXIS  of DIARY OF A FIT MOMMY

Diary of A Fit Mommy

Here is another breastfeeding advocate. This sexy mommy blogger inspires mommies all around the globe to be fit, healthy and to love their bodies. She shows women that we have the STRENGTH. We have control over our own bodies. Strong is the new sexy. Skinny is out. In her blog, Diary of A Fit Mommy, she shares helpful tips in getting the body we want. She proves to people that she can be strong and still be maternal to her son and sweet & loving to her husband.

5. LESLIE LUDY

setapartgirl.com

Leslie Ludy is a best-selling Christian writer. She and her husband, Eric, wrote the book When God Writes Your Love Story which I read before when I was still in medical school. She has six kids, biological and adopted. She enjoys being a mother, accepting the natural chaos of a household full of kids. She represents MOTHERHOOD & SPIRITUALITY. She sets perfect example for young women in her ministry, ASETAPARTGIRL, where she equips young women to live a Christ-centered femininity.

MY ULTIMATE GIRL CRUSH: AUDREY HEPBURN

May 31, 2012 by Little Miss Honey 757 Comments

May is will be ending soon but before it do, let me pay tribute to my ultimate icon, my fave girl-crush of all whose birthday happens to fall in May: Miss Audrey Hepburn. May 4, 1929 to be exact. Belated Happy Birthday, Miss Audrey Hepburn. Idol!
It is kind of weird that I look up to an actress that is way before my time. But I have discovered Audrey Hepburn when my brother told me to watch the TV because there is a story about nuns. Those were the days I thought I have a calling to be a nun, hehe. I love the movie and I got particularly curious of the actress playing the lead role. My started enjoying watching the TNT back & white movies. I later saw her other movies: Breakfast in Tiffany, Roman Holiday, Funny Face, Sabrina and The Unforgiven. I also learned about her involvement with UNICEF as well as her timeless simply elegant and classy style. I couldn’t help but admire this woman. I think she is amazing! Peg for Life! It is important the girls especially during the awkward stages of pre-teens, we need role-models, someone we look up to. Because who we look up to determines what we want to be come. And I see Audrey Hepburn as a perfect role model not just because of her admirable body of work in films but her as  a person. Of course, you and me are far from what Audrey has done or is and we all have our own stone to carve in our unique way but it is good to have someone to inspire you.

Here is my humble collection of Audrey Hepburn memorabilia and more to come:

I leave you with the favorite poem of Audrey Hepburn that she read in one UNICEF programs. You can see that her life principles are simple and more internal-driven rather than external frivolousness. In her son’s book about her, she was quoted saying, “Boil it down to what count the most: What is the essence of what you are trying to do, what is the most important thing? Things only get complicated when you address too many issues.”  Oh, Miss Audrey, I love you….
