Army Navy is in Iloilo!
My sister was the one who introduced me to Army Navy. I tried it when I was in Manila and I been craving for their burritos ever since. Army Navy opened along with several new restaurants in the current food & coffee destination in Iloilo: Atria and the food-loving Ilonggos couldn’t be any happier.
Army Navy is designed in a simple interior with a few army reference. There are fun Army phrases on the white brick walls. The way of ordering is self-service, pay first and wait for your number to be called.
What we ordered:
Freedom Fries (85.00 pesos)
The fries are thinner that the usual fries. It is also is uniquely seasoned but my mom it is a bit spicy. I like this new twist on their fries though my mother didn’t like it at all. In her own words, she thinks it not “kid-friendly”. It is called Freedom Fries because it is a euphemism for French fries because of a brief dispute of the US and France.
Burger (185.00 pesos)
The sesame seed bun of the burger looked rather smooshed. It is a bit too soggy for me. The beef patty was alright but nothing spectacularly different. It is pretty much just your regular burger. The patty is topped by lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo & ketchup.
Steak Burrito (195 pesos)
I asked the Army Navy server what is their bestselling burrito. She said the Steak Burrito. It comes wrapped in an aluminium foil with 2 small sauce container of salsa, 2 small sauce container of garlic sauce & a slice of lime.
I understand why people keep coming back for their burritos. The burrito is a very filling meal in itself. The flour tortilla is not overly thin that tear easily with the contents of the burrito but not too thick that it seem like you are eating more bread than filling. The burrito is filled with flavored beef steak with Spanish rice, onions, cilantro and frijoles. I also ordered their iced tea that is homemade rather than the artificial powder iced tea.
Yes, Army Navy had their mission accomplished. We came in hungry and walked out happy. I salute you, Army Navy!
