I haven’t been using any foundation since my last year’s acne breakout. Now I am in search for a not-too-heavy foundation or tinted moisturiser for everyday use. I been meaning to buy the Stila HD BB Cream when I tumble into the Revlon Photoready BB Cream that looks similarly like the Stila HD BB Cream. Same shiny silver packaging. So decided to give it a go. I also purchased along with it the Revlon Photoready Color-Correcting Primer.

Revlon Photoready BB Cream

BB Creams are a big hit these days (now CC Creams are replacing its throne) since Korean brands has introduced it to the market. BB Creams was previously used by doctors in Germany as an post-laser cream to soothe the irritated skin after the procedure. BB stands for Blemish Balm which provides hydration, minimise skin flaws with sunscreen. Who would want that all-in-one beauty potion, right? No wonder, women are crazy about BB Creams. Though there are lot of doubts in Western BB Cream (many claims Korean brands are way better), I gave Revlon Photoready BB Cream a shot.

Claims of Revlon Photoready BB Cream:

1.  HYDRATES like moisturizer
2.  SMOOTHES like primer
3.  COVERS like foundation
4.  BLURS FLAWS like concealer
5.  PROTECTS with SPF 30 like sunscreen

It comes in three colors: light, light/medium and medium. I always buy 2 shades darker than my real complexion because I don’t like that kabuki effect. I would usually neutralize the color with my Maybelline Pure Minerals Foundation Powder. I rather look tan than ghost-white. I got the medium color.

The consistency of the cream is thicker than usual bb creams which is watery and runny. It is also very buildable.

 

PROS:

1. It is very buildable and you can layer more if you want more coverage.

2. It has  a sleek packaging similar to Stila HD BB Cream.

3. It has SPF 30, great sunscreen coverage for a BB Cream.

4. It comes in a squeeze tube for easy use.

5. It has  three colors for different complexions. Most BB Creams comes in one universal color and usually comes off very opaque-ish or white.

CONS:

1. Its coverage is more to the light to medium. So hyperpigmentations and spots are very much visible. But hey, what can you expect from a BB Cream, it is not a foundation, anyway.

2. It is not long-lasting. By midday, my face got a bit greasy and in need for a touch-up.

3. It oxidizes so the medium color in my skin got even way darker than its real color. (But still I rather get darker than white, anyway).

4. It is more of a sunscreen than a moisturiser. I didn’t see the hydration that it promises.

5. It broke me out a little bit. (But I think it is also because of too much drinking of coke zero and  that one night when I dozed off without washing my face).

WOULD I PURCHASE IT AGAIN?

Probably not. It maybe be a good tinted sunscreen substitute but any products that makes me break out is definitely a no-no.

Revlon Photoready Color-Correcting Primer. 

 

I have never used a primer before. I find it time-consuming to apply another cream apart from the moisturiser, sunscreen and (if using) foundation. Primers are make-up base to conceal uneven skin tone & fine lines, to make the foundation last longer and to become a barrier from the skin and the foundation to avoid clogged pores. So I gave this one  a try. I am a sucker for any“purplish” makeup. (Most of my blush are in that colour range).

Claims of Revlon Color-Correcting Primer:

1.  SOFTEN skin

2.  REDUCE the appearance of pores and fine lines

3. SMOOTH skin texture and tone.

4. BRIGHTEN skin and neutralize redness

5. EVENING out uneven skin tone.

PROS:

1. It glides like dream. Very easy application.

2. It comes in a pump bottle for hygienic purpose.

3. It did made my BB Cream last longer when I used it together.

4. My skin tone looks more even after application.

CONS:

1. After one application, it gets so matte that applying another layer can make your skin cakey.

2. Even if it made my makeup last longer during the day, it creates a mask-like cakey texture in some portions of the face that you have no choice but to wipe it off.

3. It is best for women with perfect skin who doesn’t use any powder, foundation or concealer.

WOULD I PURCHASE IT AGAIN?

I haven’t tried any other primer so this would do for now. I might repurchase if I need it for night makeup to make it last longer.
