This is an official entry to Dainty Mom‘s guest post challenge on “How To Find the Time to Write or Blog”
I am a full-time doctor in a very busy out-patient department clinic in Singapore, working from 8AM to 5PM. I get pretty exhausted by the time I get back to my place. Apart from my work, I have also started in a Graduate Course for Family Medicine here in Singapore which requires me to study, make case presentations and attend workshops & tutorial sessions. My friends would ask me how I manage to squeeze in to update my blog or to write articles. My day job requires objectivity and concreteness while writing fuels the yearning of my abstract soul. This antipode balances me in a way. Blogging or writing is my version of recharging and escapism. But even my little hobby like blogging needs specific strategies in order for me to accomplish a post or two for my blog.
1. JOT DOWN BLOG POST IDEAS
I love notebooks. I always have new notebooks because it can easily be filled up with loads of my scribbles. I love jotting down stuff from my favourite quotes I saw in a billboard, to my monthly goals, my monthly budget, grocery lists and included in there are my blog posts ideas. This would give me reference on what I will write about next.
2.COMMIT TO A BLOGGING TIME
The only time I can write blog posts is after work. So after cooking/eating my
lunch dinner and having an hour or two to read notes for my Family Medicine course, I allow myself to write. I usually have a topic in mind already and I give myself time to write around 20 to 45minutes every night or every other night. Then I would just set them to be published on a certain time of the day through Hootsuite.com.
3. USE WAITING OR LULL TIME TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
One of the things I noticed when I transferred here in Singapore is that most of my time as spent on the MRT. I see a lot of people in the MRT busy with their smart phones, usually Candy Crush. Yup, I peeked, hehe. I used this time to edit my photos for my blog posts using several applications like Camera 360, Fotolr, Phonto and InstaCollage. I find editing picture more time-consuming than writing the post. I also do the editing when I am queuing. I also try to post the picture beforehand in my BlogBooster application and save it in my draft.
All in all, blogging makes me happy so that is basically why I find the time to do it even with my busy schedule. They say, ” Pag-ayaw may dahilan, paggusto may paraan.” Anything can be done as long as you love what you do and you have a passion for it even if you are only doing it to satisfy your mini-indulgences without waiting for recognition or monetary rewards. Happy Blogging, my fellow bloggers!
