FINDING MY STYLE: A FASHION PROJECT WITH TOBI

June 19, 2017 by Little Miss Honey 1,083 Comments

I took me awhile to find my fashion style. Frankly, I am still finding it in my 30’s. I have been used to hand-me-down clothes from my cousins, clothes bought for me by my mom who has her own distinct style and vintage clothes from old suitcases from my relatives. So by the time, I got to pick and buy my own clothes, I was a bit lost.

Slowly by the years, I have realized that I gravitate towards the basics – monochrome shirts, plain spaghetti straps, t-shirt dresses,  white button-down shirts. I jazz it up with quirky accessories like layered necklaces or chandelier earrings. I am also into feminine and girly style. I love laces and embroidered linings. And currently I am into showing off the shoulders for some reason. Most of my recent bought clothes are off-the-shoulder. I know it is a current trend though I am really not into trends actually. But I just been liking off-shoulders lately for some weird reason.

So I decided to do a little fashion project to discover my own style. Choosing a partner on this fashion project is crucial. I need to find the best brand to collaborate with. And I found it in Tobi. My friends in Singapore and LA have been raving about Tobi for the longest time. They pushed me to download the app in my phone. So I was just ready to get it on my fashion project with a few clicks on my trusty mobile phone.

I have to channel my inner stylista and come up with #ootds using Tobi wear. I was excited (and scared too, given my history in my indecisive fashion sense.)

Tobi is an online-only women’s fashion boutique based in Los Angeles. With several million customers and 1.5M Facebook fans, they ship to over 150 countries worldwide and publish 20-30 new arrivals every day. Their style is for every woman for every occasion – party nights, summer beach days, and fashionable work clothes too.

I picked 3 outfits to style and make it my own. This project however should come with a disclaimer. I am no fashion blogger. I love fashion but I dont often do #ootds shots. I am comfortable with flatlays and food photography but fashion shots can be out of my comfort zone. So you have been warned.

For the 3 outfits to style, I decided to try 3 different kind of looks: Basic, Trendy and Sweet & Sexy.

Versatile Basic

I love basic wear because they are comfortable. I love their versatility because I can dress down or dress up with it. Plus I can layer on accessories and have fun with it.

I had the Emili Stripe T-Shirt Dress from Tobi. I love how comfortable I feel wearing it. I wore it with my Rubi brown boots. I created 3 looks from this dress.

I used Lovisa layered necklace and bronze earring I got from my mom. I used the straw hat I got in Boracay to add a bit of ompff to the outfit. For the last look, I used a beige sleeveless coat which I got from a Korean shop on top of the t-shirt dress.

I can wear it going out in the mall or I can wear it to work. I can even used it for datenight or an after-beach wear.

Trendy Basic

I am obviously drawn to basic style. I feel that I cannot go all out crazy with fashion. I tried the off-shoulder trend and mix it with a dark-colored shift dress.

I got the black Juna Cold Shoulder Shift Dress from Tobi. I paired it with Guess high heels and gold-coins necklace from Lovisa.

I love the texture of the dress. It is cooling and soft perfect for summer wear. I can wear it with boots too or a sandal. I can wear different types of chunky necklace for this one too.

Sweet & Sexy

I love girly clothes with embroidered linings and laces. I love minidresses with rose to blush-pink color. So I was excited on the last outfit though it was more of the sexy side, showing a bit of flesh which I am not used to.

I had the Truly Yours Rose Skater Dress from Tobi. The lace trimmings looks so pretty and the lace back is absolutely exquisite.

I paired it with my light blue Repetto T-Strap heels and accessorize it with my Lovisa layered gold necklace.

I can imagine wearing this for summer or clubbing with edgier make-up. I can add in a cute cardigan if I want to use it for work and use a lace cami-bra to take care of the low neckline.

There you have it. My 3 looks brought to you by TOBI. Are you ready to create a style project of your own? Head over to Tobi.com/sg to pick up your 3 outfits. It offer free shipping with no minimum in all orders to Singapore. Share with me what you come up with in your Style Project by tagging me in Instagram: @littlemisshoney. I am excited to see it!

THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

Things that inspired me this week

Things that inspired me this week

Happy Mothers’ Day to all mothers! Today is such a special day because we are giving honour to the mothers all in the world. I have never realised how special this day is until I become a mom of two. Motherhood is not easy. Ask any mom. But somehow all the hardship are all worth our while because it is done out of pure love. I was touched my husband gave me  a bouquet of flowers early yesterday for Mothers’ Day. I don’t want an award for all the sacrifices and hardship for taking care of our kids but it feels nice to be appreciated once and awhile. Plus receiving flowers makes me feel happy. You know what they say “Happy Mom=Happy Kids“.

Mothers' Day Flowers

This week, it was nice that I got to meet up with a colleague friend of mine who is now working in a different clinic. We were able to catch up with news of each other and have a pastel pedicures at this cute salon in Beach Road called Manicurious.

Manicurious

I am lucky to have the coolest and sweetest workmates. They arranged a Welcome-Back-After Maternity-Leave Dinner for me after work. I brought along Fynn so they can meet him too. We had a great time chatting, eating and taking turns in carrying Fynn.

royal's cafe cake

We had the dinner at Royal’s Cafe. I tried their meesiam and it is the best meesiam I ever tasted. I am still dreaming about it. I love to bring my hubby and kids there soon. They have a corner for kids to play. They got  a long table near the window with lots of Lego.

Today, we went to Marche′ for Mothers’ Day dinner. I got a chocolate cake treat upon entering the restaurant. That is such a sweet gesture. We got a pizza, roasted pork, pasta, garlic bread, ice cream and chocolate fudge cake. Naj was so happy playing at the kid’s corner. Marche′ is one of the kid-friendly restaurants in Singapore.

Here are a round-up of links I found online that inspired me this week:

5 books that remind me of who I hope to be

morning habits of busy, successful women

Emma waitron’s beautiful garbage gown at the Met Gala

Why time-outs fail as discipline and what to do instead

Workout with baby

Step for a tantrum-free home

mothers should be appreciated

Happy Mothers’ Day! I hope all moms today had a very special day….
