ASSERT YOUR RIGHTS & OTHER MAGICAL HIDDEN POWERS

April 10, 2009 by Little Miss Honey 1,258 Comments

I came to me late in life (not THAT late, just 29 years late) the realization that we possess hidden powers we could summon any minute of everyday.

Here are some magics powers you could use:

1. ASSERT YOUR RIGHT

I got a poor service from a photograph studio, giving me a wrong background color to what I specified. Usually, I would timidly just keep the picture and pay for another picture in another studio. But this time, I went back to the studio, told them politely that I want a refund for my money because I gave them specific instructions before I had my picture taken. I walk in there knowing my rights as a consumer. And I too was shocked when I got back my money without any hitch.

2. MAKE A WAY

I was getting back on my feet after a cash meltdown by having garage sale,
taking on ‘rakets’& moonlighting jobs and selling my mom’s old catalogues & cookbooks to aspiring dressmakers & cooks.

3. DREAM BIG

If I wasn’t a doctor, I would love to be a social worker and be part of an organization that focus on helping young women. It’s nice to dream about it and another to make moves to make it into a reality. I came to hear this org and I got excited. Bursting with enthusiasm, I wrote a letter to the president of the organization, volunteering my help. I didn’t know if they would respond but in a few days, I received a reply and setting up a meeting… Fabulous, isn’t it? Next stop… A non-violent, greener world…..

4. SMILE

I could stress enough the power of a smile. Even Mother Teresa is an advocate of smiles because she knows the power in a smile. Friendships start from a smile. It also could lift up a day of someone even a random stranger. A positive outlook and enthusiasm is infectious. So, smile and better yet, laugh. Because laughter is a perfection of a smile.

5. PRAYER

Prayer could move mountains, my mama said. And she was right. If you allow the Higher Power to work in your life, amazing & beautiful things unfold in your life that would let you say, “Ei, isn’t just life delightful?”.

GARAGE SALE!!!

April 10, 2009 by Little Miss Honey 888 Comments

Garage sale
I have said early on that this year 2009 is my year of financial freedom. In an effort to reach my goal, I devise strategic plans to rid myself with the debts I seem to have accumulated the past few years and start my retirement fund this year.

I used to give away my old clothes, bags & shoes but this year & last May 2008, I followed Og Mandino’s advice, ‘To turn garbage into wealth’. And that is what I did. I gathered all my old clothes, bags, shoes, books and what-nots and decided to have a garage sale at the boarding house we are managing in CPU, Jaro.

My last May garage sale was a success. Along with my brother & sister-in-law, we sold the stuff at home that we barely used. We had so much fun. We have met a lot of interesting people. We have this trisikad driver who is really interested in my brother’s old jersey sando. He comes back every 30mins to check on the sando after driving a passenger & gives us his coins he earned ‘til it was totally paid off. And there was a guy who came in with his talented dog, that entertained us with its tricks.

Garage Sale

So this February, in my attempt to pay off my debts of last year, I planned another garage sale and this time I convinced some co-residents in the hospital to join me. With them,we earned P6, 450.00!!! Wehooo!!! I decided this to be my yearly thing…. Now, I could say my journey towards financial freedom is starting in a high note….

TRIP BACK HOME TO GASTRONOMIC HEAVEN

April 10, 2009 by Little Miss Honey 1,058 Comments

Goodbye Australia! Hello hello Manila!

As I got down from the airplane, the sticky humid air of manila greeted me…. I’m back in the tropics… Yeheey?! hehehe.. Nevertheless, I was excited to see my sister, who is now based in Manila…. We would chat for hours and do what we love to do best together: PIG-OUT!
My sis, her roommate, Maryan and I spend my 3 glorious days in Manila pleasuring my taste buds to its utmost delight. Woohoo!

My gastro adventure in Manila:
DAY 1

Cajun Ribs

CAJUN RIBS
1. TOWER OF RINGS (Onion)
2. RIBS PLATTER (Cajun)

SCORE:3/5

COMMENTS: Love the ribs platter

MOGWAI CAFE

1. CHOCO LAVA
2. TRIPLE HEAVEN

3.COFFEE

SCORE:3/5

COMMENTS: The place was ideal for artists, newbie directors and photographers… It was cozy… I love it… The pastries they served was deliciously sinful…. The coffee though was pretty ordinary

DAY 2

DAMPA AT BACLARAN
1. BUTTERED SHRIMP
2. SINIGANG SA MISO
3.CALAMARI

SCORE:5/5

COMMENTS: Worth all the cent my sis paid for our lunch, hehehe…. I feel sad for those people with allergies to crustaceans… The buttered shrimp is superb!

BUBBA GUMP

1. SEAFOOD PLATTER
2. OREO SHAKE

SCORE:2/5

COMMENTS: Love the whole concept… Inspired from the movie “Forrest Gump”. The place was full of “Forrest Gump” memorabilia with the movie playing in the background over & over. With a very original way to call on waiters with license plates stating “RUN FORREST RUN” & “STOP FORREST STOP”. However , the food was a letdown because the servings was small & quite expensive.
CREPES AT GREENBELT3

FILIPINA CREPE – MANGO WITH NUTELA

SCORE:2/5

COMMENTS: It was ok, thinking we 3 have to share the teeny crepe… I was paying eh… such a cheapo, hehe… It was yummy enough but the Nutela was melting fast like water from the heat of the crepe

DAY 3

CONTIS AT SERENDRA

1. PORKCHOP MEAL

2. CHICKEN RISSOTO MEAL

3. MANGO BRAVO

4. MUDPIE

SCORE:5/5

COMMENTS:A perfect meal to end my trip to gastronomia… My last supper with my sis and her roommate… All the dishes was heavenly. Mango brava was the specialty of the house but I’m partial to the turtle mud pie. Yumm!!

Bon appetit! I was definitely in gastronomic heaven
