I am the eldest of four sibling. It can be a tough act to follow being the eldest, really, that in my younger years I thought my personality was much of an only child – a predilection to solitude and privacy. But now I tell you, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love my siblings to death! My life would be a drab, sad sad life if they are not in it. They are one of those wonderful gifts that God has brought into my life. Having siblings is one of the best things in life I tell you. I give you 5 GREAT THINGS OF HAVING SIBLINGS:
1. YOU HAVE YOUR OWN GANG/POSSE/BESTFRIENDS
Wanting to enter into a fraternity, sorority, gang, cliques? Look no further than the peeps in your home. Our parents brought us up to be very close-knit. We are one of those ‘weird’ families who enjoy being with each other. In our high school days, some kids would be hanging out with their classmates on weekends but you would find me and my siblings enjoying our weekends together watching movies, eating out or going bowling. If one of us have some spat with our close friends in school, we don’t get that lonely because we know we still got out our siblings as our friends. When some nasty kid from school would quarrel us or get into fight with us, we know we have our siblings to back us up.
2. YOU GET AN HONEST-TO-GOODNESS OPINION
If you want an honest opinion, go ask your sibling. With our friends, there are tendency for them to sugar-coat opinions to avoid offending you. But with siblings who you been with all your life, who shared your awkward I-want-to-wear-bathing-suit-to sleep days and secret of being milk-bottlefed until you where in Grade 1, you get the real-deal opinions and advices.
“Bro, do I look good on this dress?”
” You look like a ‘suman‘ with Aunt Janet’s old lacey table cloth wrapped around you”
“Sis, what you think of my new girlfriend?”
“She kinda reminds me of our cat who died before.”
They will give you their opinions in a wise-cracking manner sometimes but when real opinion are need they will give you the real deal. They will tell if they think you look fat in the dress you are wearing. They will tell you if your boyfriend is not good enough for you. My sister once said, ‘If one day you like a guy and we all don’t like him. I will tell you that I don’t like him but if you believe he is the one who will make you happy, stick to him, Because in the end, we will eventually accept him because you chose him and as long as he loves you and doesn’t hurt you. And because we are your family‘
3. YOU HAVE PEOPLE TO SHARE THE BLAME
Lets say you were playing ball inside the house and your youngest brother accidentally threw the ball on your mom’s precious vase. Do you think your youngest brother will get all the scolding? No siree! All of you who played inside the house get a mouthful of scoldings from your mom, get grounded or maybe a spank on your skinny bottom. Hahaha! The sermon & scolding become bearable because you don’t get all the blame. Hahaha!
4. YOU HAVE YOUR OWN PERSONAL LAWYER (FREE OF CHARGE)
Yes, siblings can be ‘consentedors”. Hehe! We are each other allies. So we tend to support each other with our endeavours and act as lawyers to our parents in behalf our siblings.
“Manang, I want to go to this party, please tell Papa that I have to be in this party or else it will be detrimental to my social life” .
Believe me, this tactic can be very helpful and it works when one of your sibling does the talking instead of you to your parents. Haha!
5. YOU HAVE YOUR OWN 911 HOTLINE
You and your siblings might have your own squabbles but when worsts comes to worsts they will always be there to help you out. My mom told us. “Blood is thicker than water“. Yes, people will come and go but siblings are forever. Even if you have temporary rift with your siblings when you are in your lowest of low, they couldn’t bear to see you suffering and will be a shoulder (or shoulders) to lean on.
To my three amazing siblings: I love you so much! I can’t imagine life without you. Even if we are miles apart, busy with our careers and having families of our own, we will remain bonded and close. I am always here for all of you when you need me.
Happy Siblings Day! Love your siblings, people….
