One of the good things that came out of 2020 is me being reunited to my childhood hobby: reading. I love books ever since I was young. I gotten that from my mother who always has a pocketbook in her hands as she lie down in the her bed during the early evening lull or during afternoons when she would make us take naps. She told us that reading is her escape, her outlet when she is stressed or when she wants to relax. When we were growing, we found ourselves loving reading and books as well. I … [Read more...]
10 MEMORABLE BOOKS
I came across an old Facebook status update which is sort-of a chain-letter tagging another person to do specific tasks. I rarely participate on those. But on one occassion, it was about books. I am a sucker for books, a 100% bookworm. I was asked to state 10 of my memorable books, explain why and tagging another book-lover friend. Here are mine: 1. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott- women, sisterhood and family - I love themes like this. 2. Nothing Last Forever by Sidney Sheldon- it is a … [Read more...]
BOOK OF THE MONTH: PAANO BA ‘TO?! BY BIANCA GONZALEZ
My sister bought me this book because she knows I would like this one and I am a fan of Bianca Gonzalez. Bianca was the one who influenced me to start blogging actually. Paano Ba 'To?! is a book a few decades delayed for me. It would have helped me tremendously if I read a book like this when I was a teenager. Yes, this book is perfectly written for the 'younger-than-me' generation but there are other topics that would still be relevant for a mommy in her mid30s. The book is divided … [Read more...]
BOOK OF THE MONTH: THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN BY PAULA HAWKINS
I am such a fan of Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl and this book, THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN by Paula Hawkins is very reminiscent of that book. The girl on the train is Rachel, an alcoholic ex-wife, who indulges herself with daydreams/made-up stories of people she sees from the train. She was particularly fascinated by a couple she often see from the train until one day, she saw in the news that the woman went missing. She later learned the name of the woman is Megan. As Rachel gets deeply obsessed with … [Read more...]
BOOK REVIEW: ATTACHMENTS
There is a new kid in the block that is making waves in the fiction department. She is no other than Rainbow Rowell, the bestselling author of Eleanor & Park. But before I read Eleanor & Park, I grabbed another book of hers, Attachments and I did not regret it. It is about a hot, awkward, nerdy IT guy Lincoln who lives with his mom and plays dungeons & dragon during the weekend. He works in company which allows him to snoop into the employees' emails. He came across … [Read more...]
BOOK REVIEW: THE EXPATS
I was looking for an action suspense novel. I found this, The Expats by Chris Pavone, among the recommended novels in Kinokuniya Bookstore. Initially, I thought I am reading a novel version of 1993's Point of No Return movie starred by Bridget Fonda. This is story of a female undercover CIA, Kate Moore hoping to live a normal life. The backdrop of the novel was interesting. It was set in a lot of places in Europe when the protagonist's husband was offered a lucrative job in … [Read more...]
