Another tick on my bucket list! I watched the critically acclaimed broadway musical of Andrew Llyod Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera. I am so happy to share this experience with my favorite buddy, P.
I grew up singing the songs of The Phantom of the Opera: “ All I Ask of You” and “Music of the Night” and I am in a high to actually watch the broadway show. The show’s venue is in the majestic Marina Bay Sands Theatre. We got tickets for the 2:00 PM show and we were running like crazy a few minutes close to 2:00 PM because we might miss the opening act entirely.
It was my first time to watch a real Broadway show and it was a dream. The costumes were so intricately done, colorful and so beautiful. They have a magnificent production from the lights, the props and the backdrops. Special mentions are the lovely humongous gold chandelier in the stage as well as how they were able to make a boat look like it was really flowing on water.
The actress, Claire Lyons who played Christine is beautiful and a definition of a triple-threat. She danced gracefully, she acts flawlessly and she sings like an angel. She did the role of Christine justice. The rest of the cast was amazing in their own right. The Phantom played by Brian Little has a wonderful variety of ranges in his voice. He did a creepy take as Phantom, though. He reminded me of a lustful Beetlejuice preying on innocent (Christine) Winona. I still think Gerard Butler did the best and sexiest portrayal of Phantom.
I swoon when I listened to the duet of Christine and Raoul, “All I Ask of You.” I realize it is perfect song for a wedding, a promise of loving and taking care of each other. But P and I thought that The Phantoms rendition of the song has more impact and filled with heart.
P and I enjoyed the show immensely and we cant wait to watch more Broadway musicals…
