I currently have three favourite places in Singapore that indulges the foodie in me and my love for quirky cafes: Tiong Bahru, Katong and Lavender. Lavender has a new restobar that will joining the chic restaurants and foodie places in the area.
1 Tyrwhitt Bistro & Bar is the new kid on the block in Lavender. It was opened just 2 months ago by partners Karen and Paul. They stayed true to the industrial look of surrounding area in Lavender and the interiors of the bistro displayed a chic modern warehouse look. It is reminds me a lot of the interiors of the nearby Chye Seng Huat Hardware Coffee. But 1 Tyrwhitt Bistro & Bar opted for a more minimalistic design with dim yellow lighting and high ceilings which gives the place a very posh feel.
I was able to take a glimpse of their menu and I saw that they offer a wide range of Italian foods.
Black Truffle Egg Pizza ($23.80)
The trick here is to break the egg yolk while it is still hot and spread over to the pizza. The truffle oil was so fragrantly-seductive, inviting us to ” Eat me”. On top of the crust are mushrooms, parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese. I love the al dente thin pizza crust. This is one of my favourites of the night.
Aglio Olio ($16.80)
Here is another carb-laden dish that won my approval. I like the big juicy tiger prawns and the sauce of this pasta is not overly spicy just enough to give it a kick which I enjoy very much.
Crispy Chicken Mid Wings ($10.00)
Another of my favourite dish for the night was these crispy chicken mid wings. It was a great combination to eat with your favourite beer or cocktail or it can be your main course for the night as well. The chicken coating perfectly dusted into the mid wings and it wasn’t too thick nor too thin. It tasted a good mixture of herbs and spices into coating without it being too “flour-y”. It was very crispy and crunchy.
Meat Lovers Pizza ($19.80)
This is a very classic pizza that carnivore would love because it has all the favourite meats on top of it: ham, pepperoni and bacon with mozzarella cheese. I would prefer more meat in this pizza though.
Seafood Marinara Pasta ($17.80)
There were big portions of fish, scallops, squids and mussels in this pasta. The pasta was soaked with the sauce. The seafood portions seem to have overpowered the pasta in this dish.
Grilled Salmon ($20.80)
The salmon comes with a creamy lemon butter sauce, vegetables and potatoes. It was too lightly grilled for me . Now that I am pregnant, I prefer my food cooked well done.
Chicken Chop ($16.80)
This chicken chop is tender and drenched with sweet brown sauce. It also comes with mashed potato. It is a very filling dish.
Cheese Lovers Pizza ($19.80)
This contains different types of cheeses to indulge the cheese lovers out there but the blue cheese is the one can be distinctly tasted. The smell of blue cheese was overpowering and it took awhile for my sensitive nose to get used to its pungent smell.
I love cream-based pasta and this is a winner in my book. There was a generous serving of bacon and cheese. It is a very heavy and filling dish.
1 Tyrwhitt Bistro & Bar also serves beer and cocktails. We were given a tower of Kronenbourg 1664 beer to try.
I am never a beer drinker and especially now that I am pregnant, I have to skip a taste test on the beer. But Miss Chocoholic said I would have enjoyed the beer because it is not bitter like most beer, rather it is sweet and light.
Then came dessert.
Panna Cotta ($8.80)
There are beautifully-plated. The panda cotta is very soft and melts in your mouth. It is drizzled with raspberry sauce that give it a sweet and mildly sour taste.
Another beautifully-plated dessert. I love tiramisu but this one is heavily soaked in rum so I stayed away from this one.
1 Tyrwhitt Bistro & Bar is a great addition to the foodie strip in Lavender area. It is a wonderful place for friends to hang out to enjoy filling Italian dishes or a night of cold alcoholic drinks. It is also a relaxing new place to take your new date to.
