This is a very late post. Last January 19 was my hubby’s birthday and for his birthday dinner, we headed to the northern part of Singapore to check out ORTO. Orto was suggested to me by my friend who been there. It is a multi-recreational park that is as big as 7 football field which is open 24 hours a day with activities like prawning & fishing and has several restaurants & pubs to choose from. It is a great venue for special events like weddings and parties.
We haven’t explored the whole place and we arrived late in the afternoon & it was getting darker. Our son was enjoying running around the wide lush greenery. It was a beautiful place to go to. It was previously called The BottleNeck Tree but was recently revamped. The place is also very accessible and near Khatib MRT.
There were several food places to choose from there and we took some time in choosing where we will have dinner. We didn’t make any reservations. We can choose from: Taste Garden, Mookata, Aroy Jing Jing, Long Jiang Chinos, SGMY, Hops & Berries and Quench! Bistro & Bar.
We finally decided on Mookata. We prefer to dine alfresco overlooking the lake. We were later joined by our couple friends who are expecting their baby in a few months just like us. (I was still pregnant when we went there also. )
Mookata Traditional Thai BBQ is unique way of dining where in you grill your own meal in an extraordinary charcoal. This will ensure a maximum flavour without charring the meat. It is like a dome-like grill which can slide off at time into the sides where you have your soup being heated. It is a fun way of dining though beware you will smeel like smoke afterwards. The staff were so friendly and nice. They didn’t mind my little boy running all around.
We ordered the Set for 4 ($68.90): a combination of marinated chicken ( thigh), pork collar, prawn, squid, sukiyaki, streaky bacon, fish ball, meatball, crabsticks, otah fishcakes, round cabbage, chinese cabbage, kang kong, xiao bao, corn, golden mushroom, eggs, tung hoon, and tofu. You have the regular soup or tom yam soup. There are also premuim selections or if you want to order the ingredients to grill ala-carte.
Set for 4 pre-grill
They also have this sauce that is spicy, medium spicy and very spicy to dip your marinated grilled meat. It made the dish more appetizing. I prefer the spicy while my hubby likes the very spicy.
We got Thai Iced Tea ($3.50) and Lemon Tea ($2.00) for drinks.
We were 5 in total with Naj’s nanny and one toddler but the Set for 4 was enough for all of us. We enjoyed our meal so much that hubby wants to come back again for more. I particularly like the soup with all the vegetables drowned in it. My favorite among the meats are the marinated chicken and fishballs.
I highly recommend you to visit Orto. Go and grill in Mookata or try the other restaurants in Orto. We would love to come back and try some of the fun activities offered in Orto.
