Pets are our beloved and yet messiest of roommates. I am not even referring to the voluntary mess that they create, but the unintentional pile of furry mess that they leave behind wherever they go. Yes, I am talking about pet hair. Although, nothing can make us love our pets any less but it doesn’t bode well to have a mess of hair lying around. To top it off, no place in our homes is safe from this predicament, not even if you have hardwood floors. All places, low or high, reachable or unreachable, get covered by pet hair. We are only talking about cost-effective DIY solutions here, but if you’re lazy and need a machine to do this for you, read more here and find out what are the best ones.
Here are some valuable tips to get rid of those pesky pet hair without getting rid of your pets.
- Custom Couch Covers
Simply cover your couches with a blanket that you don’t use on a regular basis or have a custom couch cover made for your couches. These will come in very handy as you can simply wash these covers once a week and simply take them off if any surprise guests arrive. Thus, keeping your couches looking clean and new at all times while also keeping your pets comfortable and happy.
- Wet Rubber Gloves
This is an easy technique to pick up and clean pet hair from upholstered furniture and beds. Simply dampen a pair of rubber gloves and wear them as you normally would. Then sweep the wet gloves over the surface of the couches or bed-sheets you wish to remove hair from. The gloves will pick up the hair that you can then dispose. Thus, leaving you with a clean set of couches and bed covers.
- Lint Rollers
This is yet another handy tool that you can purchase from any nearby store. It is a tool especially designed to pick up stray pet hair when it is swiped across upholstered furniture, bed covers or clothes. This allows for a quick fix to pet hair problems.
- Use Duct tape
This method is very easily accessible to anyone, at any time. The reason is the presence of duct tape at all homes, at all times. Thus, using it as an easy fix to removing pet hair is simple. Just use a piece of duct tape and stick the sticky side of the tape to furniture and bed surfaces. The hair will stick to the sticky side and thus will make its removal quick and easy.
This tip is particularly for removing pet hair from your clothes or furniture covers. Just add half a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle of your washing machine when you put hair infested clothes in the washing machine. The white vinegar loosens the hair from the cloth and thus allows its easy removal.
- Dry Broom
As stated earlier, no place is safe from pet hair, not even hardwood floors. But luckily, hardwood floors are still relatively easier to clean. You can use a vacuum cleaner but a dry broom also does the trick. A dry broom can be quite fruitful in gathering up hair on the floor and then removing it using a dustpan.
A squeegee is a useful tool not only for windows but for removing pet hair as well. You probably own a squeegee for super easy cleaning of windows, but now, you can simply take it out and sweep it across any upholstered furniture, clothes or bed covers. The sweeping action will pretty soon start to gather up pet hair like a magnet. Once you pile it all up, you can easily throw it away.
